Before I start explaining what the Mandela Effect, it's not all about Nelson Mandela. It started with him, but evolved into something so much more. By definition, the Mandela Effect is; The phenomenon where a group of people discover that a global fact - one they feel they know to be true and have specific personal memories for - has apparently changed in the world around them. Take a moment to really think about this. There are memories from your childhood or memories your parents have of certain events or products that may not actually be true. Here are 5 examples of the Mandela Effect.
1. Nelson Mandela
Lets start with the great Nelson Mandela himself. Do you remember him dying in prison or in February of 2013? If you remember him dying in prison then you were probably very surprised to hear him actually passing in February of 2013! Yes, even if you vividly remember him passing away while in prison and remember the funeral being aired on TV during the 80's, he didn't actually pass away until 2013.
2. Berenstein Bears or Berenstain Bears?
Quickly, without looking it up, which name looks correct? Berenstein Bears or Berenstain Bears? If you thought the first spelling was correct then prepare yourself. It actually was "The Berenstain Bears". Don't believe me? Go onto Google right now and look it up. It will show you how that it's always been "The Berenstain Bears" and in theory, we've been saying it wrong this whole time.
3. Jif or Jiffy Peanut Butter?
Do you remember Jiffy Peanut Butter? Yes? It. Doesn't. Exist. You know what does? Jif Peanut Butter and Skippy Peanut Butter, but not Jiffy. I know what you're thinking, you're 99.99% positive that Jiffy exists and now you're going to Google it to prove me wrong. Unfortunately, you won't find it anywhere and that is because it never existed. I'm sorry to tell you but you've probably had Jif and just called it Jiffy.
4. Mr. Roger's theme song
This is going to be a huge throwback into your childhood, and if you wish to not have your childhood crumble into tiny little pieces then skip this. I repeat, do not read this if you want your childhood to stay happy and full of rainbows and unicorns!
Okay, how do you remember the theme song going? Do you remember the line "It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood." Well, guess again. It's actually "It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood." Don't believe me? I'll just leave this here and let you hear it for yourself.
5. Snow White
Okay, time to dig deep into your childhood. This famous scene is remembered by anyone who doesn't live under a rock. Even if you never saw the movie, you know of this particular scene. Of course I am talking about when the Evil Queen goes up to her mirror and says her famous line. Do you remember it being "Mirror, Mirror on the wall..."Nope! If you look back it is actually "Magic Mirror on the wall..." . Once again, I will leave the youtube video of this scene to further show you that I am not lying to you about this.
These were just 5 of many examples of the Mandela Effect. If you go on Google (or Bing) and look up "The Mandela Effect" you will find plenty of examples that people found throughout their own investigations such as; Sex and the City, Star Wars, Sketchers – Skechers, Dilemma or dilemma, and many more.
