Ex-Stanford Athlete Heroically Overcoming The Rape He Committed

Brock Turner, a swimming star and loved son, is heroically overcoming the rape that he committed in January of 2015.

A crime stemming from "binge drinking" and "promiscuity" has apparently ruined Brock Turner's life, who is honestly "such a sweetheart", and "not a monster", despite his supposedly horrendous actions that have put a girl's life on hold as she overcomes the damage he caused.

But what about Brock Turner? What punishment is he facing? On June 2nd, the ex-swimmer was convicted for THREE felony counts and SIX WHOLE MONTHS IN PRISON. If Brock's dad has anything to say for it, this punishment is actually too strict for his son, as he is already going through so much!

And who knows, he may be right.

After all, his father has been "disciplining" this "happy go lucky" guy with such an "easy going personality and welcoming smile" for his entire life. Who would be better to choose his punishment than he, the father, of the true victim here?

I mean, as the father himself said, "every waking minute" of Turner's life "is consumed with worry, anxiety, fear, and depression." Although this completely ignores and fails to address any emotional or physical damage his actions and clear choices have caused, it is a true tragedy that this remarkable young man was banned from USA Swimming and now faces six months, if he isn't released earlier, in a jail cell and must register as a sex offender.

Just think about his future!

Forever he will be looked at as someone who committed a heinous act, and he will suffer for it for the rest of his life.

I mean, this girl is scarred for the rest of her life as well from something that was not her choice at all, as his was, and will constantly be reminded of what he did to her, but rapist Brock Turner must face the struggle of others knowing what he did!

Would he be filled with such worry and fear if no one had discovered the truth about his actions behind the dumpster that January night? Would he look back and regret what he had done?

The answer is no. No he would not. If he was not caught, Brock Turner would have continued to brag about his "accomplishment", as he did during it when he shared photos of his victim's breasts to others in a group chat.

Brock Turner's life is ruined, and I am forever grateful for this.

Inside of prison, he will be in a bubble, surrounded by guards and cut off from the outside world.

Outside of prison, he will face the looks of others. He will be insulted, looked at differently, and in the end his life will hopefully be ruined. Just as this victim's has been.

Although he may not care about what he did to this innocent, and yes she was completely innocent, girl that night, he will care about how others will treat him for the rest of his life.

This girl, however, is not the only one. Attention should be placed on all victims on rape, and especially on all perpetrators.

Every 2 minutes, an American is sexually assaulted. Only 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.

Brock Turner is one of the rare cases where he was actually sentenced to time in jail.

While we are all, hopefully, outraged at this case's outcome, we should use this anger to propel us forward and actually create a change in the system.

The voices of these victims, of all genders (as 1 in 33 men have also been sexually assaulted), deserve to be heard. They deserve to be heard by us.

We should be furious, and we have every right to be.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
