If you grew up like me, then when you think of professional wrestling, you might think of staying up a little later and watching some of your favorite wrestlers talk smack on one another and throw people through tables, etc. Nowadays, some of us don't even watch it because it's fake or because we feel it's kind of dumb. If you're like me, you love wrestling. I love going to events and cheering for the people I think should be pushed and booing the people I can't stand. But wrestling has evolved in the last 15 years with more athletic wrestlers coming into the fold.
With smaller and more athletic guys come into the business, such as Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn, or pioneers like Edge and Jeff Hardy, professional wrestling is entering a whole new era, and these companies need to take notice. When WWE took NXT on the road and came to Pittsburgh, I had the opportunity to watch and admire the spectacle it was. If you are not familiar with NXT, they are basically WWE's developmental area. It's like Major League Baseball's minor league. NXT is full of wrestlers who we might not think of being wrestlers. Finn Balor, Kevin Owens (or Kevin Steen), these are guys you wouldn't think of as a normal wrestler such as a Hulk Hogan or a Macho Man Randy Savage.
As much as I love seeing these smaller athletes get a chance, there is only one man's opinion that matters. Vince McMahon. If you are a fan of professional wrestling, you know the name. Vince has done a lot of good for the company. He brought us the attitude era in the late '90s. He has given us Wrestlemania, one of the biggest sporting spectacles ever. But there's also been some questionable decisions. Like always pushing guys because they're big and strong.
As a fan of this sport, I hate to see guys that have worked almost longer than I've been alive, not get a shot because Vince doesn't like how they look. The guy next in line is doing a great job with NXT. And that's Triple H, or Paul Levesque as some know him. I hope in the next few years as Vince starts to move out and Paul starts to move in, we can see guys such as a Kevin Owens, or a Sami Zayn get a chance to compete for the World title. Till then I guess we will have to deal with what we got.
