The Evolution Of Rory Gilmore

We practically raised Rory ourselves.

The Evolution Of Rory Gilmore

" Gilmore Girls" is a coming-of-age television show that warmed the hearts of many in its running and continues to do so as it is featured on Netflix. The mother-daughter duo in the show allows viewers to relate to real-life situations that they may be going through or have yet to go through. Rory, the daughter, goes through many major changes throughout the show, so in honor of the show becoming available worldwide on Netflix and the new season to follow in the fall, here is the evolution of Rory Gilmore.

*Spoiler Alert*

If you have not watched the series and still wish to do so, I would choose wisely before moving forward with reading this article.

High School Rory

When we first meet Rory she is a freshman at Stars Hollow High School where she is known as a studious, smart, normal, good girl. After completing her freshman year she is accepted at Chilton Preparatory School, which she thinks will help her chances of one day attending Harvard. Rory is a quite focused girl and she does not seem to let anything get in the way of accomplishing her goals. She is just like any other high school age girl in this stage: being confused about boys, falling in love for the first time and typical friend drama.

Relationship with Dean

In her second year of high school, Rory begins to date Dean, the new guy in Stars Hollow. She is the typical teenage girl with a crush: shy, nervous, and uncertain of herself. Eventually, she and Dean date, but hit a few bumps in the road when Rory does not say 'I love you' back after Dean expressed his feelings. Their relationship is quite typical for a high school one and their flame eventually goes out when she meets Jess.

Relationship with Jess

After Dean breaks up with Rory she begins dating Jess, Luke's bad boy of a nephew, which she falls hard for, but eventually realizes that they are just not right for each other. Is it really high school if you don't fall for at least one bad boy?

Friendship with Paris

While attending Chilton, Rory meets a girl named Paris who views her as major competition academically. The two had a back and forth friendship throughout their high school career as many friends do.

College Rory

Rory decides to attend Yale instead of Harvard, which comes as a surprise to her mother, but she comes to terms with it when she sees how excited Rory is. At the start of her first year she is typical Rory: focused, determined, and ready to take on the world (with her mom on speed dial that is).

Friendship with Paris

At Yale Paris and Rory become suite-mates and their friendship becomes one to be envied. They are best friends and take on their college years together. Paris becomes a very important part of Rory's life in school and out.

Relationship with Logan

Through a friend Rory meets in her dorm, she meets Logan Huntzberger, a boy who she at first does not give the time of day because of his player attitude. After doing a story on the secret society he is apart of, Rory becomes infatuated with Logan. Rory begins to take more and more risks, which eventually costs her the relationship between her and Dean.

After non-exclusively dating Logan for some time, Rory realizes she wants more than that. Logan realizes he doesn't want to lose Rory either so he agrees to become exclusive. Logan invites Rory to a family dinner, but things don't go as smoothly as she would hope. His family is quite rich and does not approve of Rory, fearing that she will ruin the family name. In an attempt to apologize, Logan's father offers her an internship with the paper company he owns.

After Logan's father completely crushes Rory's dreams of being a journalist, she and Logan steal a yacht causing them to be arrested. Rory takes a turn for the worst and decides to take time off of Yale because she feels as though she is not going to make it in the world of journalism anyway. Her decision puts tension on her relationship with her mother.

Relationship with Lorelai

When Rory is taking her time off from Yale she and Lorelai do not speak due to Rory going behind her back and moving in with her grandparents. This phase of Rory's is very frustrating because Lorelai and her are supposed to be the dynamic duo. Rory becomes quite whiny and begins to throw her hard work away on partying and hiding out at her grandparents' house. Rory even abandons the 21st birthday celebration that her and Lorelai had been planning for so long. Instead they are forced to have an awkward encounter at the party that her grandparents plan.

Finishing College

After a brief reconciliation with Jess and an inspiring speech, Rory decides to finish her time at Yale where she excels. She becomes the editor of the Yale Daily News and is on the fast track to success. She also makes up with Lorelai, lets be honest this is the most important part of her change of heart. Logan is also still in the picture and Rory is more mature than ever.

Graduating Yale

Although Rory does not land her dream internship at the New York Times, she does not let this setback slow her down. She begins applying all over the country, but still keeps Logan in mind. The two discuss where they want to end up and whether or not they can handle long distance again.

After Graduation

Rory isn't quite sure at first where her life will lead her, but she remains optimistic. She views her situation as being completely wide open with plenty of opportunity waiting to be taken advantage of.

The Proposal

At Rory's graduation party she is taken completely by surprise because Logan decides to publicly propose to her. Rory pulls him aside and does not give an answer, instead tells him she needs time to decide. She is completely torn and enlists Lorelai to help her decide, but she refuses.

Saying Goodbye

Ultimately, Rory ends up saying no to Logan because she does not want to tie herself down as she has so much to do. The two part ways, much to everyone's dismay. I know my heart broke the second he said goodbye.

The Job

Rory gets a surprise offer to be a reporter for Obama's presidential campaign, but it starts three days later. Both Lorelai and Rory are quite excited, but scared because this will be the first time they will be a part for that period of time. Rory is finally becoming a grown woman with a big successful career ahead of her. We leave Rory to pursue her dreams as a reporter.

With so many loose ends to tie up, be sure to watch the new season of "Gilmore Girls" this fall! What was your favorite Rory phase?

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
