The Evolution Of The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a tradition loved by many for several decades. So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving (and Christmas), here is an evolution of the parade balloons over the past 90 years.

Felix the cat (1927)

Felix was the first balloon character used in the parade.

Captain Nemo (1932)

Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug?

Mickey Mouse (1934)

The first of many appearances.

The Tin Man (1940)

Toto, I don't think that we're in Kansas anymore.

Spaceman (1952)

Blasting off into Christmas. Bad pun intended.

Snoopy (1968)

The first of seven appearances in the Macy's Day parade for our beloved canine.

Kermit the Frog (1977)

Maybe it's not so hard being green?

Olive Oyl (1984)

The first female balloon character in the history of the Macy's Day parade.

Ronald McDonald (1994)

I'm lovin' it.

Elf On The Shelf (2014)
