“Adulting” is a hard skill to master. It requires you to complete boring activities such as maintaining budgets and remembering to change your car’s oil. The ultimate test, however, is learning to maintain healthy habits during such an exciting time. Getting enough sleep, exercising and eating right are the keys to a long, happy life, but they can be hard to care about when there is so much freedom to explore! This list accurately depicts the progression of health-related habits in college.
Sleep
As soon as you enter college you realize that you can stay out as late as you want to and no one can tell you otherwise.
Coffee, you discover, is a great substitute for sleep.
But then you learn that the lack of sleep is affecting your mood and no amount of caffeine can compensate for that.
So you start setting curfews for yourself. And sometimes you
actually go to bed on time!
(But most of the time, you decide to go hang out with your friends instead.)
Exercise
Exercise is another wellness hurtle. Since you aren’t in sports anymore like you were in high school, you have to find an alternative way to stay active. You try a lot of different activities — some of which you aren’t so good at:
And you often don’t know what you’re doing.
But, once you find an activity you enjoy, it just clicks for you.
And you ask your friends to join in on the fun.
But mostly, you’d rather just not workout.
Diet
And then there’s eating healthy. How can you eat healthy when there is such delicious food around you?
But you know eating out isn’t the healthiest for you or
your bank account.
You try to make your own meals, but no one can cook like your parents can.
And when you do make healthy food, your friends often remind you how not-like-pizza it is.
Another downside is that making food is such a time-suck.
So you eat whatever’s fast, easy and tasty.
You’ll try again tomorrow, hoping that one day you’ll be able to feed yourself like an adult.
But don’t feel bad! You’ll learn how to adult soon enough. Keep trying and remember that college is a time for fun just as much as it is for learning how to maintain healthy habits.
