Everything I Wish I Knew My Senior Year.

There's a lot of things people didn't tell me about this transition in my life.

Everything I Wish I Knew My Senior Year.
Sarah Stewart

Now, I know that your senior year is crazy. You'll get so much "advice" about your future, some of it you'll need and some you want. You’ll hear from your grandfather that you need to go into real estate and you’ll hear from your best friend that you should go to the same college that she is so you won’t be separated. As a freshman in college, there's a lot of times where I'm like, "dang I wish I knew this would happen in high school." It would've made a difference in what I chose to do and how I went about it. So here is everything I wish I knew my senior year:

1. Do what makes YOU happy. It's not your parents education, it's yours. Don't get into a major just because your mom or dad said to. You'll end up hating it.

2. Enjoy and take advantage of every. Single. Shower.

3. Hug your mom and dad a little tighter, it's hard for them to let go (especially if you're their best child)

4. The friends you have now are just friends you have because you see them 5 days a week at school

5. It's okay to lose friends

6. Drama is so stupid, it really really really doesn't matter after graduation

7. Be nice to EVERYONE. you never know what they're gong through

8. It's okay to not be okay

9. College is so much better than high school

10. The ACT is important but you don't have to stress that much over it

11. If you're doing your best, that's all someone can ask for. If they don't see that you're trying, let them go.

12. Spend time with as many people as you can the summer after graduation

13. Let go of people that hold you back

14. It's going to be hard not seeing your family/friends all the time

15. Planners are everything

16. 8ams aren't that bad if you actually go to sleep at a decent time

17. Go. To. Class.

18. Just because you don't "have" to go to class, doesn't mean you shouldn't

19. Find a job near your college BEFORE graduation if at all possible

20. Save your money. You'll need it

21. Naps will sound like a good idea but they aren't

22. Studying make not be necessary in high school but it is in college so just go ahead and get used to it now.

23. I hope this helps some. Most importantly, remember that everything will fall into place like it's suppose to. God doesn't make mistakes. You're going to be okay.

24. You don't have to come home every weekend.

25. It is so much better than high school.

I hope this helps some. It's going to be a crazy transition for you, so take it day by day! If you think about everything you have to do at once, it overwhelms you and you'll think you can't do it but you can! God is with you and He knows your future. Stop worrying and enjoy every minute of it! It flies by.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
