Everything I'd Like To Tell My Sister

"I'm not anyone. I'm me. You can tell me anything. We're sisters. You're my family. What is you, is me. There's nothing you could ever say to make me let go. I love you." -Blair Waldorf

Everything I'd Like To Tell My Sister
Melanie Grady

To my Mini-me,

In my short 20 years, I've learned quite a bit about life. When I found out mom and dad were having another kid, I was filled with mixed emotions. Having another sister seemed to be pretty scary, but so exciting. I was used to it being just me and our other sister and I wasn't ready for that to change. On the day you were born, I didn't just get another sister, I received my best friend and the greatest blessing of all. We've been best friends since day one and you've changed my life for the better. You're pretty much my favorite person of all time in the history of ever. Here's everything I'd like you to know.

Thank you for your constant support.

You've always been there. You've always had my back. Through any and everything. Whenever something exciting or terrifying happens, you're the first person I want to tell because I know you'll be honest with me. You don't ever sugarcoat anything. Thank you for that. I'd also like you to know that the same goes for you. I'll always, always have your back. We may be soon separated by fourteen hours, 884 miles, but I am always a phone call away.

We're literally the same person.

I am beyond blessed for all the things we've bonded over. From Supernatural to Harry Potter to Gossip Girl to Charmed; from our fashion sense to our love of books and literature; from our political views to our views on life. Thank you for the late night movie sessions and Netflix binges, for telling me when I look good or bad, and especially for keeping me calm during the election. I couldn't ever ask for a better "twin".

I am so incredibly proud of you.

You are the most talented person I know. I've always known that I had talent when it came to books and art, but your talent far surpasses mine. You have a voice that belongs to angels and your writing skills are amazing. I am beyond jealous of how well you write your stories and fan-fiction. I hope to one day be half as good as you. I've had the pleasure of watching the person you have grown to be in the last 12 years, and I couldn't be more proud.

Mom and dad are usually right.

I swear mom and dad want the best for you. They will drive you crazy and embarrass you on countless occasions, but please let them. Talk to them every chance you get. Tell them you love them as much as possible. Listen to all of their rules and take all of the advice they can give you. Everything they do is for you, and your siblings of course.

Best friends are better than boyfriends.

The relationships you make will probably be the most important you'll make and will last you a lifetime. Having a best friend makes you pretty lucky. Don't ever ditch them for a boy or forget how important how they are. Best friends are always up for shopping sprees, lunch and dinner dates, and movie/ Netflix nights. Your best friends will always be there to pick you up and help you find yourself along the way. Boys come and go, but best friends are forever.

Make mistakes, but learn from them.

Everyone make mistakes. It's inevitable. You're not perfect (you kind of are, though), but you're human, so you'll make them. Mistakes make you who you are and teach you so many things about life. So make as many as you'd like, but always remember to learn from them because a mistake that's never repeated is a lesson learned.

I might be the older sister, but I look up to you. You inspire me every day to be a better person. You believe in me more than anyone I know. I follow my dreams every day because I want to make you proud to be my sister. I want you to achieve all of your dreams because it is possible. Thank you for always being my best friend. I don't believe there are enough words to describe how much you mean to me. Thanks for being the Robin to my Batman, the Serena to my Blair, the Phoebe to my Paige, the Ron to my Harry, the Sam to my Dean (Or the other way around).

I love you to the moon and back and more than all the stars in the sky.

Love,

Your favorite-big-sister and best friend. XOXO

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.
