I'm afraid you all might have thought this had to do with the Ebola scare going on.. especially with some patients being moved to MUSC for further attention. Rather, this concern the opposite end of the spectrum.. Food!
So for quite some time it's been known among locals of the downtown Charleston area that the mom & pop breakfast, brunch and lunch diner, Jack's Cafe, will be closing as of next week. Jack announced he will be retiring soon, so it's evident that you'll need to get your fill of bacon, eggs and well.. endless coffee before they lock up those doors one last time.
I mean don't get me wrong, this isn't the end of the world but Jack's Cafe is definitely one of those places you wish could just take over the space of Eli's Table or even Toast because it reminds you of the old Charleston times rather than the modernized Charleston. The glitz and the glamour of King Street can allude so many tourists, and even natives for that matter, but there's nothing like going to Jack's Cafe to chow down on some greasy cheesy grits and waffles. If you haven't had a chance to catch a meal at Jack's, I recommend doing so this weekend. It's the perfect medication for any hangover.
Best to you Jack on your retirement and let the good times roll. Your sadly molded diner booths and cheap yet deliciously filling meals will be missed with much love.
