Everyone's A Little Bit Basic

As Fall approaches, we're beginning to be bombarded by outfits consisting of riding boots or Uggs, leggings, a slouchy sweater, and an infinity scarf, on top of literally pumpkin spice everything and holiday beverages being released earlier and earlier. Admit it, you like or own at least one of those things. For reference, see this Pin below that I'm pretty sure most people have pinned. Am I above the leggings, riding boot, slouchy top and circle scarf ensemble? No, and unless you're some edgy fashion blogger, model, or celebrity who gets the latest trends for free, neither are you.

Okay, so besides obnoxiously calling you out and revealing how basic I actually am, I'm sure you're kind of wondering what my point is. My point is that everyone is a little bit basic sometimes. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Declaring yourself superior just because you don't like something that is popular does not make you cooler or superior to anyone unless you're in middle school. Are there some people that are just effortlessly cool and do not seem to have a basic bone in their body? Sure, they seem that way, but it's actually part of some really contrived persona and they also try really hard to make it seem like they do not try that hard. Oxymoron much? And then there are the people that are legitimately not basic because they live a really alternative lifestyle and while they instead, are labeled weird and are rejected by society. So it seems, as females in this harsh, harsh world, we really can't win.

Maybe this then means, we should stop shaming each other for our likes, dislikes, and lifestyles all-together. I'm gonna list a few things that are commonly done/ enjoyed by people and instead of judging each other, we're going to be proud that there is so much in this world to love.

Leggings, because hey, they're comfy.

Patterned leggings, because they're fun.

Lululemon, because I'm keeping with the legging theme.

Victoria Secret

Starbucks

Target because OMG DEALZ.

Kate Spade, because it's good quality and not completely unattainable.

Lilly Planners because if you buy a cute planner you'll actually stay on top of things right?

North Face

Uggs

Riding Boots

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Holiday drinks in general.

Extremely complicated drinks

"Skinny" Drinks

Brandy Melville

Coconut Water

Booties

Kale

Chipotle

EOS Chapstick

Glitter

Chia Seeds

Pellegrino and other artisanal sparkling waters

Long Sweaters

Things that are branded as "healthy" but actually aren't.

Speaking of which, Diet Coke

Legally Blonde

FroYo

Bubble Necklaces

Watching the Kardashians either legitimately OR ironically

Mani Pedis

Sundresses

The Bachelor / Bachelorette

Brunch

Mean Girls

Infinity Scarves

Taylor Swift

Or really any type of popular music

Mimosas

Tunics

Cosmos

Sex and the City

Fruit infused "spa" water

Chevron Print

Now try and tell me you don't like A SINGLE ONE of these things. Pretty hard, huh? Why? Because they are all really cool, nice, things that are perfectly acceptable to like and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not gonna say that people aren't going to judge you if you "live" for all of these things, like legitimately every one of them, but that's fine. You do you. Let's celebrate liking commonly liked things, stop being mean to each other and unite.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
