Everyone Should Work In Customer Service At Least Once, And Here's Why

From those of us who have worked in customer service, we're begging you to see what it's like.

If you have worked in customer service, you've probably experienced a lot. You've probably dealt with a lot of great people who make your day brighter just by being kind to you. You've probably dealt with a lot of people that aren't rude but aren't exactly friendly. They really just don't care.

And then, there's the worst type of person who all of us customer service employees have dealt with.

The ones who yell.

Working in customer service, whether you're at a restaurant or a retail store, you are bound to come across some customers who are just ready to yell at you for anything.

They will yell about prices, a mistake you accidentally made, the checkout line is too long. In other words, they will yell about pretty much anything.

We do not deserve that.

We wake up on any particular morning, go about our day, mind our own business, and go to work. At work, we get yelled at by someone who doesn't even know us. Often times, it wasn't even our mistake that got us yelled at. They're just yelling to yell.

That's how you know that a person has never worked in customer service.

If they are able to so easily treat employees so terribly, there is no way that they have stood in our shoes. There is no way that they have stood there and been yelled at by a stranger, just for trying to do their job.

That is why it is important for everyone to experience what it is like to work in customer service. That way, the next time someone goes to yell at an employee for any reason at all, they'll remember what it feels like to stand in that employee's shoes.

Being yelled is something that all of us who have worked in customer service had endured. It is demeaning and it is not fair.

Next time you want to yell at someone that is just trying to do their job, think twice. Put yourself in their shoes.

Show kindness instead.
