Everyone has heard of meditation. Everyone has heard that it’s an ancient practice and that it helps us become more mindful.
What does mindfulness mean? Mindfulness is being in the present moment and reflecting on what is around us without judging it. Being mindful helps you win sports competitions, debates, spelling bees which boosts your levels of confidence. Being mindful lowers depression because instead of judging tough or uncomfortable situations, one learns to reflect without judgement on the situation and try to understand why one feels the way they feel.
Meditating is especially important while one is in pain, whether physical or mental, because it helps increase levels of pain tolerance. One simply learns to acknowledge pain’s presence.
Meditation is a spiritual experience in which one is patient and lets answers come to them. Anyone can question aspects of their lives and they can receive answers through mental images. Background noises add to the meditative experience because they too can provide answers. For example, if a song is playing in the background the lyrics may be important.
One is also aware of their body and posture while meditating. Maintaining good posture while meditating helps to become aligned mentally and physically in life. Chakras are the centers of spiritual power in the human body. When the chakras are aligned, which is what happens when one maintains good posture and meditates often, one experiences peace.
Meditating has many benefits, and although it is hard to sit down and meditate the first few times because the mind can be very noisy and distracting, it is possible. With meditation, practice makes perfect. The key is to allow thoughts to come in instead of pushing them away, and to never give up.
