Friends are the family you choose. They accept you for who you are, offer endless support, make you laugh wholeheartedly, and are always there for you when life gets messy. They definitely deserve some recognition for putting up with you...
Specifically, they deserve a dinner.
Typically, Thanksgiving is geared towards expressing your gratitude towards family members and celebrating with a turkey dinner. You can't forget to express your appreciation to your friends. Sure, as you get older, it becomes harder to find the time to catch up with friends.
This calls for a Friendsgiving! Get the gang back together for a night to give thanks and reminisce over the good times while also making new ones!
Here are 5 easy ways to have a fabulous Friendsgiving:
1. Decor
If you're anything like me, you love decorating. You also love decorating when it doesn't break the bank! Quick tip, buy Thanksgiving decor for your Friendsgiving the week before Thanksgiving. You'll be surprised to see things 75% off. It's all because stores are prepping for Christmas. Target's bullseye section has items ranging from $1 to $5 and is a great place to find decorations. Just hurry before they sell out!
2. Potluck dinner
Have everyone contribute to the Friendsgiving. Everyone make or bring a dish! You can make a scrumptious dessert or hop over to Costco and snag a fabulous pumpkin pie. Also, if you're the host/hostess with the mostest, provide the ham instead of a turkey. This allows some variety for their taste buds.
3. Give thanks
Before your meal, go around the table and share what you're grateful for, maybe even share a unique anecdote that reminded you how lucky you are to be surrounded by such great people. Another way to express gratitude is to have your friends write down three things they are grateful for and read out everyone's lists. You then guess whose list belongs to who.
4. Thanksgiving games
These games can be Thanksgiving-themed or just any type of game! The whole point is to get everyone participating. Endless laughter will fill your home after playing these games. Some of my favorite games are Pictionary, Heads up, and Speakout!
5. Head to bar after dinner
If you so happen to have your Friendsgiving fall on the day before actual Thanksgiving, take the gang to the bars after your meal. It's an unwritten tradition that high school pals reunite at their local bar the night before Thanksgiving. This allows everyone to meet up with even more people! The more the merrier!
