Everyone Needs A Side-Kick, I'm Lucky My Brother Is Mine

Throughout my life, I have realized that people come and go. Lately, I've realized that through the years, the one consistent person in my life is my little brother.

I remember when I was four years old my momma told me that I was going to be a big sister. I was going to have a little sister. Someone I could have tea parties with, play school and house with, and share all our clothes with as we grew older.

Plot twist: the doctors were wrong, the ultrasounds were wrong, and my dreams were suddenly non-existent. A baby boy was born, and this baby boy was my brother. Little did I know that my life would be blessed by such a wonderful human being.

Growing up was a little different. There was no tea parties or sharing of each other's clothes. However, there was still playing school. I like to attribute my brothers "smarts" to myself because he sat in my make-believe classroom for hours and hours each week.

We did a lot of fun things together. We raced each other on our bikes, played Whiffle ball in the back-yard, and pretended we were spies and talked on our walkie-talkies. These activities were way better than tea parties with random stuffed animals.

Growing up, I have been so blessed to have my brother. Through everything, he has been there for me. No matter what I told him, I knew he would always offer good advice and tell me the truth, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear.

He has always been my biggest supporter through sports, jobs, and of course, college. When I am feeling down, he's always sending me a funny Snapchat or a pick-me-up text. He's everything a sister could ever want.

My life is completely different with a brother than it would've been with a sister, but I wouldn't dare change a thing. I am grateful for my brother and the person he is becoming. As we both grow up, I want him to know a few things.

1. I am always just a call or text away.

2. Your secrets will always be safe with me.

3. I promise to support you in the path life leads you down.

4. I will always be your big sister, your side-kick, and your #1 fan.

Brother, you deserve the world and I believe in you. Keep being you, stand up for what you believe in, and go make your mark in this world. I love you more than words can describe and I promise to always be your side-kick sister.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
