Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge fan of all the Marvel films. I never miss the chance to see them in theaters, and as soon as they come out on DVD, I watch them endlessly. There are positives and negatives to each of the films, but overall I think its a really great franchise that speaks to all sorts of people. I do have my favorites that I gravitate towards (any of the movies that involve Loki especially), but after this week, I'm able to add another favorite to the list.
After anxiously waiting a week after its release, I finally got the chance to see "Deadpool," and it did not disappoint! I had high expectations after seeing all the previews and promotions, and it definitely lived up to all the hype. However, if you haven't seen the film yet and are expecting it to be like every other Marvel film, then you may want to change your expectations.
What's so great about "Deadpool" is that it isn't like all the other superhero movie. Even Deadpool himself says he's not technically a hero. There's not much in the world he takes seriously, expect the love of his life Vanessa. The movie is filled with raunchy humor, pure R-rated violence, and enough one-liners to keep you entertained long after the movie is over. In fact, you almost forget the fact that it is supposed to be a kind of superhero movie.
When I say everyone needs "Deadpool" in their life, I don't necessarily mean everyone. The movie is rated R, after all. And as I said before, it's not like other Marvel movies that came before it. This movie isn't to be taken lightly. Yes, it has loads of humor, and the main character is a superhero-type. However, this is in no way a movie for kids. After seeing the movie, I went to Facebook to see some reactions, and I was surprised at the amount of comments I saw about parents having to immediately leave to movie because it was too inappropriate for their child. Normally I wouldn't pay much attention to this, but in this case I think this problem is very important. Parents shouldn't get sucked into the fact that "Deadpool" is a Marvel movie. There are certain characteristics that are key to any Marvel movie—witty banter between characters, lots of action, a central love interest. Besides these few things, though, it is nothing like "Ironman" or "Captain America." Parents need to realize this before they go and bash the movie for not being suitable for kids.
Everyone needs some "Deadpool" in their life. And by everyone, I mean everyone over the age of 17. Even then, some may feel that some images in the film are too inappropriate or uncomfortable. But the movie shouldn't have negative reviews because of this. For what it was supposed to be, which is a crazy R-rated action film where the main character frequently breaks the fourth wall and swears a lot, "Deadpool" is absolutely amazing. I would recommend it to anyone!
