Little Mix has been the biggest girl group in the UK for almost a decade. But chances are, you've never even heard a Little Mix song on the radio here in the US. A combination of mismanagement and the pressures from being a diverse, girl group meant that Little Mix could not successfully make a breakthrough in America. But Little Mix is a talented, relatable, and empowering group, and it's finally time for all of us Americans to become Mixers.
Little Mix, made of members Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, won the X-Factor UK in 2011. Their strong vocals and unwavering support for one another helped make them the first group to ever win X-Factor UK. Since then, they've released five albums and toured all across Europe. They've won many awards, such as Europe Music Awards and Global Awards.
These girls have made such a big impact on the music industry, through talent and their show of empowerment. One of their first songs, Little Me, was released in 2013. As one of my favorite songs from them, its lyrics tell girls to be proud and self-loving.

The song Joan of Arc came out more recently, in 2018. It has a very different style and a somewhat similar message: feminism.

If you've ever heard a Little Mix, it would be Black Magic, Shoutout to My Ex, or Wasabi, whose mash-up with 1-800-LOVE-U's Just Leave Me For Somebody Else became a TikTok trend over the summer.

Little Mix's talent clearly shines through their music. Their songs, albums, and styles have all grown and evolved over time. It's unthinkable that this group's music has been lost somewhere between UK and America.
Additionally, the group itself is very aware of the impact they have. They've addressed the lack and mistreatment of diversity within the music industry, especially relating to Thirwall and Pinnock. As said before, they're also activists for women, with music that has stood by that since the group's beginning. Additionally, Little Mix has supported anti-bullying organizations in Europe. Recently, Jesy Nelson was the focus of the documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, specifically focusing on her cyberbullying and mental health since the group's formation. This group has not only made an impact on reality TV and the music industry, but also the world.
If you've become a Mixer since the beginning of this article, now is a perfect time! The girls are headed for some amazing, new things for the rest of the year. Currently, Little Mix is hosting a new TV show on BBC One called Little Mix: The Search. It's a different type of competition reality show, where the girls are trying to find a talented band to take on their next tour. Their sixth studio album, Confetti, is releasing on November 6th. Just a few days after, on November 8th, they're hosting the European Music Awards on MTV. This talented girl group hasn't stopped reaching new heights since their explosive beginning. It's time for everyone to see their presence.
