Social media is a good thing. It gets ideas out there, people have the ability to see pictures of someone you cannot see everyday, the ability to have contact with people in different counties, news spreads faster, the list of positives goes on. As always, with everything, there is a downside. The downside isn't the baby or food pictures that someone that you're friends with constantly posts or the "I'm getting married" posts either. Its the constant arguments over irrelevant topics. Videos of a kid throwing a fit in the back of his mom's car results in a 200,000 comments of whether hitting your kid is illegal or not. Arguments over if Gabby Douglas, who didn't put her hand over her heart during a national anthem, is wrong and then proceeds to turn into a race issue. The kid who killed two people and then proceeded to eat the people also gets turned into a race issue because he wasn't shot and killed presumably because he was white. The argument of culture appropriation and weather or not white people can or cannot have corn rows in their hair because its stealing a culture.

Honestly the list goes on. I'm not directly talking about the Hillary and Trump social media bashing/praising-- politics should be discussed. But, while I’m on that topic, if you don’t like someone's political opinion, you don’t have the right to tell that person they are wrong and start a comment thread with millions of responses and comments which each start with “you’re ignorant.” I honestly do not understand why people argue over such irrelevant things. If a white person wants to have corn rows, they can have corn rows and its not racist. If a mom wants to hit their kid because he's not behaving, she can hit him-- its not abuse unless, of course, it goes too far. If a Gabby Douglas doesn't want to put her hand over her heart and you don’t like it, there is no need to start a rant over it. If you don't like Gabby Douglas' hair, that's fine, you don’t have to, but I doubt she cares about her hair when she's out there winning gold medals and being a multiple gold medal winner. I sincerely do not understand why everyone thinks other people care so much about other people's opinions. Do people honestly think that ranting about things over social media is going to change other people's thoughts on things? Sitting behind your computer and writing unnecessary comments on a four minute video about whether or not you like sorority house singing traditions is not useful or productive.

Of course, if something is egricious and totally awful like an actual act of racism, sexism, violence, animal cruelty, etc., then yes, please, talk about that. Get the word out. Any and all type of animal memes are always acceptable and you can never share too many. Funny articles, Buzzfeed quizzes, memes (political or not), and light-hearted videos are all fine and nobody hates those. People hate trolls, negative nellies, and over-reactors.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
