"Full House" is a widely recognized show all across America. People of all ages enjoy this show; even the kids I babysit talk about it. For those who need a quick recap, "Full House" is a family show centered around the Tanner family, which consists of three girls and one dad. The family grows as the show goes on to eventually include three adult men, one adult woman, three girls, and three boys. Oh, and I can’t forget Comet, the dog.

The amazing part of this show is that you can’t go through even one episode without learning some type of lesson to apply to your life. It may only be nine seasons, but they’re packed with a lifetime of lessons.

Three girls in one house – I’m sure you can only imagine what could go wrong. They stole each other's clothes and toys, they told on each other, they got in trouble, they kept secrets, they embarrassed each other, they fought. They’re like any other group of siblings; I know I can relate.

When Stephanie didn’t have a mom to take to the Honeybee mother-daughter sleepover, Joey took it upon himself to go with her after Becky’s car broke down and she couldn’t make it. Joey didn’t want Stephanie to miss such a fun night, so he did all the “girly” things that were planned at the sleepover. He played with Barbies, wore heels, he did it all. But when it was time for makeovers, Stephanie threw a fit and ran out of the party because a parent suggested they skip the makeover, and Stephanie knew it was because of her and Joey. DJ, being the great big sister that she is, talks to Stephanie and tells her that even though they don’t have a mom anymore, they have a lot of people who love them, and that’s all that matters.

Today, families are composed of so many different mixes. One mom and one dad aren't always what we get, and that’s not what’s important. As long as we have people who love us, that’s all we can ask for.

When Uncle Jesse got married and decided to move out, he and Michelle had a pretty hard goodbye. Jesse gave Michelle one of the pink bunnies from his wall and Michelle gave him her pig. When they finally say goodbye, Michelle is left in the room crying, and Jesse is standing right outside the door crying too. I’ll admit, that scene makes me cry every time.

The point is, Jesse told her that even though he’s moving out, he will always be there for her. They are family no matter how far apart they are, and family will always be there for you.

When DJ got invited to a pool party, she freaked out about how she’d look in a swimsuit. She told her family she wanted to start having a healthier lifestyle, so they took a family trip to the gym. Here’s an example of how good families support each other and let each member know they aren’t in it alone. A healthier lifestyle for DJ meant a healthier lifestyle for them all.

However, DJ’s healthy lifestyle got a little extreme, and when Stephanie found out about it, DJ made her promise not to tell their dad. Luckily, Stephanie loved her sister enough to break the promise and tell her dad what was going on before it went too far. Danny gave one of his world-famous dad talks to DJ and told her all girls look different, and no one should care what she looks like in a swimsuit. People care about what’s inside, not outside.

When Michelle gets away with everything, Danny finally realizes that his little girl has to learn boundaries. Stephanie and DJ are tired of being blamed for all of Michelle’s mistakes, so when Michelle brings her plastic pool into the kitchen, they weren’t expecting to take the fall for that one. When they do, they get their dad to realize that even though Michelle is the baby of the family, she still needs to be punished and understand rules.

When Danny sits Michelle down to give her her punishment, he explains that she will always be his little princess, but he still expects her to behave. Those of us who are not the youngest sibling know exactly what it’s like when they can get away with everything you can’t.

When Jesse had too much on his plate, his luck ran out. He promised to fix Michelle’s Jack in the Box, bake cookies for Stephanie, coach DJ’s soccer game, go to a wedding for Becky’s cousin, finish a jingle with Joey, fix Danny’s car and scheduled his band to play at two venues at the same time. No one can handle all of that, even someone with perfect hair like Jesse. He goes nuts trying to do it all, and even though he gets some of it done, he can’t get to the rest before burning out.

His family reassures him that they aren’t mad about it; they understand he wants to help everyone, but he can’t always do it alone. There are days when we get so much done, we feel like Superman. On other days, it seems like twenty-four hours isn’t enough. When that’s the case, we need to be honest with ourselves and ask for help if we plan to take on so many tasks.

"Full House" isn’t just a TV show, it’s a blessing in disguise. I learned so much from this show, and so can anybody. Whether you’re a parent, sibling, friend, or anything in between, there’s always something to take out of watching this series.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
