In a world where mass shootings and other horrible things happen almost every day, I have found a way to escape from the negative things of the world. I have found various forms of art to be a tunnel of escape and way to relax on some of my worst days. My own definition of art is creating or making something from other objects and materials. That may seem silly to some people, but you have to open your eyes to the more positive aspects of life to really have the ability to appreciate art for what it is. You can't appreciate the painter's reasons behind her piece or the architect's ideas behind the way he drew the building if you are focused on the negative and less beautiful parts of the world.
The adult coloring book frenzy has swept the nation and I'm as guilty as everyone else. I own five different adult coloring books. The small child part of me loves to color. If you're wondering if I even hand them up on my fridge, the answer is absolutely and they rarely ever come down.
Drawing and sketching is one of my favorite activities to do. I actually think I am really horrible at freehand sketching, but I can only get better with practice. I find myself drawing and doodling for hours and hours at a time. It is amazing what me, or any other person can do with a completely blank canvas or piece of paper. This form of art is a great and relatively inexpensive way to clear your mind, and forget about some of the stress we adults encounter everyday.
Another one of my favorite versions of art is food. I love to cook. When I find the time and motivation to cook something other than pizza rolls, you can find me cooking up something delicious. I have to completely thank Pinterest for this passion. Most of the food creations made in my house come off of this website. I even have a food board with endless meals and treats I one day hope to make and enjoy. You can find it by clicking here.
Another great form of art is photography. Although I don't practice this type myself (other than Instagram -- but does that really count?), I am hoping to end my college career by taking at least one art class that focuses on photography. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I think that can't be any more true.
Whatever it is in your life that brings you happiness and peace, enjoy every second of it. Life is too short and stressful to never bring true happiness to yourself. For me it is art and it is different for everyone.
There are a million different forms of art out there. You just have to find the one most beautiful to you and dive into it.
