Surviving Everything After The First Week

Every Week After

Surviving everything past the first week of college..I have recently read a lot of articles telling you how to handle they first week of college but there is really not any information or helpful tips that help you through everything after the first week of college.

The thing about the first week of college, is that it tends to be the most chill and relaxed weeks of the whole semester. There really isn’t any homework, projects or even papers that have to be done. Professor can’t test you on the knowledge that you don’t know yet. But there are people who make the first week of college out to be this big bad scary thing. The only reason that the first week of college is scary, is because you don’t know what going to happen. You are only scared of not knowing. So take a breath. It’s not the first week that anyone should be afraid of its every week after that tends to be frightening. Here are ten ways to help you through the other weeks

1. Don’t worry about what is going to happen tomorrow.

Don’t create more stress than you can handle. Deal with every day as they come. Handle what you can that day, don’t let things that haven’t happened bog you down and stress you out. You as a human can’t plan and control what will happen the next day or even the next hour. Know what you have to get done, do it, and don’t worry about things that might not happen.

2. Take a planner with you every where you go.

You never want to double book yourself, or fill your time with activates to the point where you don’t have time to do homework. You can do both, but not at the same time. There needs to be time where you hang out with friends, but there need to be time where you get homework done. No one really wants to have a scheduled time where they hang out with friends, but sometimes you need to. I work two jobs and go to school. If I don’t have a time set aside to hang out with my friends I would go crazy!

3. Carry a snack with you

I never thought I would be the kind of person who would carry snack or even candy in my bag, but guess what I am. Boy! Did it help me when I was in a bind. There will be days where you just forget to eat anything, then all of a sudden its 9 o'clock at night and you are starving. That is when you go for the handy little snack you have been carrying around. This has happened to me to this year, and its only week three at college for me.

4. Make time for your self

This is a take care of your mental health tip. Take a day, or even an hour to just do something that you like to do. This isn’t surf the internet. This is literally being active in your mental health. Suring the internet isn’t being active in your metal health. This can be reading, napping, working out, creating art, (unless you are an art student). Do something that you choose to do, don’t be passive about your metal health.

5. Spend time with friends

I can hear people saying obviously. Just do it! Even if it is a set aside time to spend with them. I spend 3 hours every Sunday playing Dungeons and Dragons with a group of my friends! I love it, it also gives me something to look forward to every week!

6. Do your homework before the night before its due

Don’t procreate, do your homework. This is something I am still working on, and I am almost done with college. I have gotten better, but I am not where I want to be right now. This will become easier as you continue doing it

7. Don’t pull all nighters!

Go to bed! Sleep! You need the sleep more than doing your homework, or even staying up all night to watch your favorite show all night! You are in a part of your life where you are learning so much information. The only way to keep all of that information is to sleep.

8. Eat foods that are good for you

Eating well is a great thing to do. There can be days where you only eat pizza, but it’s not a good idea to eat that every day. Your body needs the nutrients from the food you eat to keep you going. And no one really wants to gain the freshmen 15, or 20 if you are lucky.

9. Wake up early

Oh my gosh! Why would you want to wake up early! Eww. I have really enjoyed waking up this semester. It helps me prepare for the day. It’s a gentle start. I wake up, take a shower, (if I didn’t take one the night before). I can watch the news before I go to class. I even get to spend some time with my awesome roommate. I eat breakfast. I get so much done in the morning, that even if I didn’t get anything else done that day, I would still feel like I did

10. Spend one day a week in your pj’s

If you wear them to class, or on Saturday. Do it! I love spending time in my pj’s. So why look nice, when I can do my homework in comfort.

College is a great time in your life! Don't waste it! Have fun, but be responsiable. What you do in college might determine what happens in the future.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
