Every Student Needs Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime is a great investment that every college student should consider. Here is why!

Amazon Prime is one of the greatest investments a college student can make. Prime has a very large number of investments. From 2-day shipping to exclusive video & music content, its hard to go wrong when subscribing to this great service. I am going to go through a list of some of the best reasons for students to consider getting Prime!

1. Price

Throughout the 4+ years you spend at college, there is a great deal of money that can be saved by subscribing to Amazon Prime. The standard price for Amazon Prime is $99 a year, something that can be hard to come by for a college student. With Amazon Prime Student, it costs only $49 a year, half the price of the standard subscription. There's no catch. Students get the same benefits and features that a standard subscriber would get, for just half the price. The only thing that is needed is a .edu e-mail address, which surely a student would have! Now, what does this price exactly entail getting?

2. Pantry

Pantry is a virtual grocery service. It is ONLY available to those that have a subscription to Amazon Prime. Not every college student has access to a car. Similarly, not every college student has the time to go to the store. Using Prime Pantry, your groceries will be delivered in under 48 hours! Choose from a variety of snacks & items including cereal, candy, granola bars, toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc.! Pantry also has a dedicated coupon section that allows students to get the best deals that won't be found in stores.

3. Fast & Free Shipping

Shopping online, it can be hard to find free shipping, let alone free AND fast shipping. Amazon Prime offers FREE 2 day shipping. Now while this service isn't technically available for all Amazon items (3rd party items excluded), almost 90% of items found on Amazon will arrive in 2 days or less. There is also a $3-4 option that allows you to overnight an item, and get it even quicker. It can sometimes cost closer to $20 for overnight shipping on other websites. The best thing about this is it doesn't matter how small, big, light, or heavy the item(s) may be. I cannot even begin to describe how often I take advantage of this!

4. Media Library

Prime members can get a discounted Amazon Music Unlimited monthly plan and there is an annual plan available exclusively to Prime members. However, there are free options that come with the subscription! There is unlimited streaming of movies and TV episodes as well as unlimited, ad-free access to hundreds of Prime Playlists and more than a million songs for members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This is an excellent alternative to Spotify or Pandora. Also included is unlimited photo storage and enhanced search with organization features in Amazon Drive.

5. Dash Button

While the dash button is more of an extra accessory unneeded with Amazon Prime, it is certainly nice to have. They cost $4.99, but the money is refunded after using the button for the first time. I own 2 dash buttons, Gatorade & Hershey's. What do they do? Well, Amazon Dash Button is a Wi-Fi connected device that reorders your favorite product with the press of a button.

The picture above shows a dash button. Using a mobile device, the button is paired with a specific eligible product. For example, my Gatorade button will order me a 12 pack of Gatorade at the press of a button, and it will arrive at my doorstep 2 days later. No need to go online!

6. Discounts

Amazon Prime offers users a large variety of discounts. My favorite one has to be within the video game industry. As most gamers know, a new video game today costs $59.99. Well, not with Amazon Prime. Prime takes $10 off that amount, meaning a brand new released video game costs only $49.99. This is a significant savings. There are a variety of more options, such as 20% off diapers, and a number of other discounts that make the subscription completely worth it.

It is very easy to see that Amazon Prime is definitely worth the price. Even if it was $99 for students, I would still consider it a great investment! Did I mention that they offer a free trial period of Prime? Go to Amazon now and sign up for Prime, you won't regret it!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
