Every Moment Matters

"With each day that passes, you have the chance to make it memorable."

With each day that passes, you have the chance to make it memorable. If you had one day to do anything or go anywhere, what would you do? I know when I have the time I'll be on an adventure, hours away from home with my camera in hand and my best friend not far away. We don't waist any time, always exploring. Hours of screaming lyrics to our favorite songs on the long car rides, driving around in the middle of nowhere trying to find the perfect view to capture or maybe just walking around and seeing as much of our own back yard as we can. I can't just jump on a plane and go across the world, but I can drive 5 hours just to go for a hike in the mountains and two hours to rent a bike to ride along the beach. We don’t let a day pass without doing something that brings a smile to our faces. But your perfect day may be spending time with someone you love, or reading under a tree, it really doesn’t matter as long as you are spending it a way that makes you happy.

But the days we don’t have free time, where we work long hours and are stuck doing things we don’t want to do, those days aren’t a waste. They’re important because they make you appreciate when you're able to go on your adventure, those days might actually be more important. They give you a chance to hold onto the things you do that makes you smile; they give you a challenge to stay positive when your doing something you don’t enjoy. The hard part is making things we don’t want to do enjoyable, but its possible. Living each day like it's your last is a mindset. It's not exploring every day and doing something memorable with every moment. That’s not practical, but having the mindset that if something ever happens, you're happy with the life you lived; that’s realistic.

Steve Jobs said, “I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Memories you have made will last; you're going to remember the days you spent doing something you love, versus the days you spent unhappy. Living every day like it's your last isn’t realistic, but having an attitude that every day counts is! Don’t waste time; you only have so much.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
