To My Best Guy Friend Who Will Be My Man Of Honor One Day

Every girl needs a guy, a guy best friend that is.

To my guy best friend,

I'm still not sure why, but when girls have best friends that are males, we categorize them as "guy best friends," rather than just best friends. But it's true, you do fall into a very different category than any of my girl best friends. Quite honestly, you're a whole different type of friend, and the place you hold in my life is something that I don't think anyone could really understand.

Reconnecting with you my junior year of high school definitely was a blessing in disguise. Over the past two years, you have easily become one of the most important people in my life, aside from my family.

You have brought so much into my life that I don't think I could ever thank you enough for. Thank you for being there for me. Whether it's 7 a.m. or you're about to fall asleep, thank you for always picking up the phone and listening to me ramble. Sometimes it's complete nonsense, and that no matter how hard you try to sound interested, I know you couldn't care less.

Thank you for giving me the tough love I never want, but always need. You put me in my place when I'm out of line. No matter how much it annoys me in the moment, I know it's only because you always have my best interest at heart. Thank you for supporting my decisions. We both know that I make some pretty questionable decisions (ones that I probably shouldn't make) but you always are there for me, even if you don't agree with it.

Along with that, thank you for always having my back and making sure I know it. Whether it's boys, crappy friends, or just personal things, you always do whatever it takes to assure me that it'll be okay. I could never thank you enough for that.

Most importantly, thank you for reminding me what I deserve day in and day out, and for never allowing me to settle for less.

I've had several best friends throughout the years, ones I thought would be by my side for a lifetime. I've also had friends that if I was asked "Could you see them in your life in 20 years?", I'd say no.

You fell into that category, but now I remind you every day that you'll be the Man of Honor in my wedding because who says it has to be a Maid of Honor, it's 2017 right? Finding a forever friend is something that is often taken for granted and labeled far too soon, almost as if any person we bond with is automatically a forever friend. It definitely took me a while to find myself a best friend like you, but the best things come unexpectedly, and this friendship definitely did.

You've impacted me and my life in ways I'll never be able to explain. You always say, "I never asked for you, but now I'm stuck with you," and you are so right -- I'm not going anywhere. I hope that everyone is able to find a friend that's half as great as you because everyone deserves someone like you in their life.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
