Every Day Is Not Going To Be Perfect, Here's How To Deal

As we age, we realize that life is not perfect, and no one is perfect, no matter how much Cinderella tried to convince us of it.

Waking up each new day is a blessing, that we sometimes forget to acknowledge. Life is not going to be perfect, and one day the stars may align and the next they are scattered in the sky.

Sometimes we forget to let ourselves feel, really feel. But we need to.

There are days when we are happy beyond belief, and days where we feel like the rug is swept out from under our feet and we can't get back up.

Life can be beautiful, exciting, sad, surprising, scary, fearful. It can be a lot of these things, so we have the right to feel all kinds of emotions even when we aren't in a situation when we even need to feel a certain way.

I've always been a bubbly and upbeat person, but as I've slowly started to enter adulthood, and as I hit some obstacles in my way, I felt like my world was instantly turned around. I went from being happy, to forgetting what happiness felt like.

Every day of our lives is not going to be perfect, every month is not going to be perfect, and every year is not going to be perfect.

I didn't know how exhausting being "on" all of the time became, until I felt like I was sinking in quick sand. Sometimes I would be thinking, confused, or just trying to be in tune with my emotions, and the moment you stop smiling you are asked what is wrong.

I am here to let you know that it is OK. It is OK to be upset some days, to keep in mind that sometimes you need a good cry to clear your mind.

Feeling like we are not entitled to feel sad because we have nothing to be sad about. But sometimes we feel happy just because we are happy.

We are human, and if we don't let ourselves feel every now and then, then we just let everything stay bottled up until we can't let it in anymore. Sometimes a small and random daily hassle can set us off because we keep all of our frustrations inside.

We aren't perfect and life isn't perfect. Each day might not be good, but those days make the good days worth it.

Being positive and striving to live each day to the fullest is key, but if something throughout the day upsets you or frustrates you, just remember that actually feeling and dealing with your emotions can make a difference.

Sometimes taking the time to take a walk or taking a deep breath and letting your heart feel and your mind think is the best medicine that you need.

Smile as often as you can, and laugh as much as you can. But remember, it is okay to be sad here and there, and it is okay to have days where you feel like you just want to be alone.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
