At Help Heal Veterans sustainability matters is at the forefront of their mission and it shows, they go above and beyond to reduce their environmental footprint with the understanding that our Earth is our future. Help Heal Veterans up-cycles materials that would otherwise end up in landfills and gives them new purpose- healing veterans. Many of the HHV leather therapeutic craft kits are built from generously donated excess materials by companies such as The Elks, SouthWest Airlines, and La-Z-boy. The leather kits turn into life-long keepsakes that allow veterans to create crafts they are proud of, that improve veterans self-esteem and give them a renewed energy for healing from their wounds of war.
Maintaining Help Heal Veterans goal of creating high-quality products while producing the least environmental impact cannot be achieved alone. Help Heal Veterans relies on a cooperative effort between donors and sponsors, that is why they have committed to integrating environmentally all-encompassing and sustainable business practices to ensure there is a future for healing in the years to come.
Fun fact: in 1974 daredevil, Evel Knievel barely cleared 14 semi-trucks when he jumped over them on his motorcycle. This year for Earth Day 2019, Help Heal Veterans proudly reported that they saved 17 semi-trucks full of materials from the possible fate of going to a landfill.
Over the past year:
- 320,000 pounds of materials were recycled and up cycled through HHV
- 91,442 therapeutic kits were distributed from recycled materials
- $3,000,000.00 retail value of new therapeutic kits were created from recycled materials
Help Heal Veterans is grateful for the resources that allow them to fulfill their mission day in and day out. Corporate donors allow HHV to support economic and environmental development by minimizing waste at landfills by reusing, renewing, and recycling products. Help Heal Veterans collaborates with companies and communities to grow their repurposing programs, so no material is left unused.
HHV holds educational behind the scenes tours of their corporate headquarters to provide opportunities for customers, suppliers, employees, and communities to have a hand in the sustainability programs actively. The tours also allow the participants to see for themselves how vastly dynamic the materials are used for different craft kits to help the healing of veterans.
The policy of Help Heal Veterans is to conduct business in a manner that demonstrates respect for the individuals, communities, veterans, and the environment. To HHV sustainability means the drive to ensure the long-term existence of their business, their partners, their natural resources, the human talent necessary to provide the products and services they offer, and the communities within which they operate and the well-being of those they serve.
