What Every College Student Understands

Deadlines, the freshman 15, Netflix, even finals, we all share the common interest.

In college, students think it is going to be kind of like high school and that their study habits can get them places and not having to do anything is going to get them somewhere. Think again. College is so much different than high school and every college student can relate to each other. The stress, the sleepless nights, the nights spent going out to drink, the amount of coffee that is consumed, even the amount of all-nighters that is pulled in one week. College students can relate. Seriously, if you college student this one's for you.

1. The awful date that is the deadline

That deadline is the best friend and the worse enemy. It is when everything is due that we have yet to get started. The long essay that we have yet to start until the night before and yet still seem to get a good grade on. Those 20 pages of the textbook that needs to be read for the class the next morning. Even the test that is studied for last minute. Deadlines are a killer for college students.

2. The last week before break that every student looks upon as hell. Finals.

This is the worse week for any college student. They are dead and walking. It is living on so much coffee that the body cannot ever process if it is actually awake or not. The brain is so fried that it seems like it is a burnt egg. If they are not studying for one test it is another. It is wanting to take a nap, but realizing that your test is in an hour and you can not stop studying to make sure you have that one final moment to pass your class. It is knowing that you are living on little to no sleep if that is even a concept at this point in time. Finals are a literal death. Picking out the weakest link. Though knowing that you get to go home and sleep it off at the end of the week is worth it. Even if you really dread what your grades are going to look like after being dead and alone.

3. 8 A.M's

Early morning classes are not a college student's best friend. I kid you not. There is never a day when we have an 8 AM that we do not question how we did it every day in high school. We even question how we were able to get up at the crack of dawn to catch the bus. I am barely rolling out of bed 10 minutes before class to be able to make it to class on time. It is a struggle. This is the time where college student really questions why they choice college and the major that only has classes super early in the morning. Early mornings are a drag and sometimes crawling out of bed seems like a chore. There will be times where you don't even put on normal clothes. Put on some pj's, shoes, and drag to class.

4. Freshman 15

This is the worst part about college. You don't even realize that you're gaining weight until you gain it and your pants do not even fit anymore. You seriously just eat the terrible food on campus or you sit in your room all the time munching on snacks. It eventually starts to affect you when you can not even fit into jeans anymore. Even if you told yourself that you would never gain it, you will. It is even harder to get it off. Though it is possible.

5. Netflix is a time sucker

As a college student, you think that you're just going to watch one episode. You are going take a break, relax, and then get back to studying. Then you realize that it is three hours later and you have accomplished nothing besides watch Netflix the entire time. It can take up a lot of your time and attention especially if you really do not want to do anything at the moment. Be careful on this one. There are times that you might even think that you're just going to watch a little bit and end up watching an entire season. It is a soul taking moment.

Through all and all, college is fun and stressful. You make the friends that you will have for life. You will make tons of memories, you will feel so tired and stressed that you might die, but in the end, you will have the best time. College is worth it once you get to finally walk across the stage for the diploma that you worked so hard on. You might not feel it at times, but every moment you spent working, you are working towards that moment that you will feel so amazing about.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
