One man led a movement that would help pave the way for another to be able to lead a country.

As we celebrated Martin Luther King Day, we celebrated Dr. King's life and the legacy he left behind that would inspire other African Americans. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream of equality between blacks and whites and wanted African Americans to be able to sit at the table with whites and have the same privileges and opportunities as them. 45 years after Dr. King gave his historic "I have a dream" speech, the dream became a reality when Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States.

Now, 8 years after Obama became the first black President of the United States, we celebrate the legacy of both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barack Obama as President Obama's term comes to a close this Friday.

Both of these men have inspired African American men and women to reach for great heights. Martin Luther King inspired us to stand up for justice and equality. His philosophy for nonviolent social change and leadership in the Civil Rights Movement would inspire generations after him to stand up to injustice and even start the Black Lives Matter movement.

Years later, when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States, not only was Dr. King's dream realized, more dreams came to life as a result. More young black men and women started aiming higher and believing that they too can become the President of the United States.

King and Obama both had their obstacles they had to go through, but both men found ways to overcome those obstacles and help others. There is no question that Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy will live on for decades to come and Obama's legacy will also stand the test of time.

These men have inspired millions of African Americans and made them believe in dreams that will change the world for the better. Martin Luther King, Jr may be gone, but his legacy lives on through African Americans like Barack Obama. Even after Obama leaves the office, he and Dr. King will leave behind legacies that will inspire future generations.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2023, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.

Christmas is literally so close. We can almost taste it. But there is just one thing standing between you and the big day: FINALS. It's not the studying, lack of sleep, last minute cram sessions or crappy food intake that is the worst... but the fact that you cannot focus because, well, CHRISTMAS. How do professors expect you to focus when Christmas is soooo soon. For all my fellow Christmas lovers out there, I feel your pain.
