If you're pressed for time or just do not like spending hours at a time with your face glued to a TV screen, there still is a way for you to capture the record breaking and most iconic events over the course of 16 amazing days. At the Olympics every two years, over 300 events take place in 35 different sports. I don’t know about you, but I can't even think of that many sports. That’s insane! If you're just following your home country, or you decide to venture out of your little bubble and keep up with one of the 200 other countries participating in the games, you sure are in for a treat. Every sport has its moments of pure joy, like when they put the gold medal around your neck after countless years of hard work. But with success, also comes failure.
You can capture all of the excitement in a few key events. If you are looking for a likely gold medal performance, go check out the USA men’s basketball team, who are more than likely to out-play their competition. Some history might be made in women’s soccer. The United States are trying to avenge last year’s championship loss and become the first team to win the World Cup and the Olympics in the same four-year cycle. In the track and field department, Usain Bolt from Jamaica is ready to win the 100-meter sprint, possibly breaking his own world record. If the normal, mainstream sports are not your style, you can watch some of the more unique ones such as badminton, water polo, and ping-pong. All of these sports contain the most athletic and qualified athletes participating in them; whichever you watch, you are sure in for a show.
The Rio 2016 Olympics Games will be kicking off on August 5 and lasting until the closing ceremony on August 21. BBC will be showing live coverage of every sport as it unfolds. If you're not athletic enough yourself to participate, or if you want to see your country's name in bright lights as they win over and over again, tune in throughout these days to catch a glimpse of the action. I know I am going to be that person who sees tons of events every day. Go USA!
