Essential Oils 101

Essential oils are one of my favorite ways to combat sickness symptoms! Whether it is a headache, asthma symptoms, or a stuffy nose, I will almost always run to an essential oil before an over the counter medicine! Although these oils can be expensive, so is over the counter medicine, so, in my opinion, it evens out! I also use oils to diffuse in my room. They smell so incredible and fresh. This is also perfect for if you are living in an apartment or dorm that does not allow candles! You can mix them or do just one oil at a time! It never gets old!

My favorite oils are peppermint, lemon, lavender, eucalyptus, and then a blend by doTerra called "Breathe." This last one is marketed towards people with asthma or anxiety to help with their symptoms, and being someone who has asthma for my whole life, I can attest that it really does help! It has laurel, eucalyptus, lemon and peppermint, which all together make an incredible aroma.

When I was in high school, my asthma was the worst it has ever been, and I would wear "Breathe" essential oil on an essential oil necklace everyday and it prevented a lot of asthma attacks! I do think that there is a time and place for actual medicine, but why put those chemicals in your body if you do not have to?

If you are looking to start an essential oils collection, I would start with the peppermint oil. It smells incredible for diffusing. It helps with headaches when rubbed on the back of the neck or on the chest, and it helps with a stuffy nose if you rub it on your chest or under your nose. So many uses!

If you are having a hard time falling asleep, or find yourself often stressed, I would invest in a lavender oil. This one is very calming, so it is perfect to diffuse right before bed! I also love to mix this one with lemon!

Wanting to try some oils for diffusing but not many other uses? I definitely recommend peppermint, lemon and eucalyptus! These three are all so potent and just incredible. If you mix them… that much better! You can not really mess up when mixing these oils. It's foolproof!

Lemon is so refreshing, especially when it is super hot and humid outside! It's perfect for that fresh zing of energy for a good pick-me-up!

Keep in mind that a lot of companies market their oils as essential oils when they are not. Make sure to read the ingredients to make sure they are clean and rid of any dyes, additives, or fake fragrances. I have seen a ton of oils priced around $5-$10 and, although I would love if that was the price of oils, it is simply not real pure ingredients. The oils priced that inexpensively are going to be very fake.

All in all, you can tell I live essential oils, but really how could you not…? With all of these benefits, they really sell themselves! (...said every tele-marketer ever…but it is true!!)

(DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor, so please consult your physician before switching from an over the counter drug to modern medicine such as essential oils!)

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
