April is here, New Jersey! It's time to load friends in the car, stop at Wawa for gas, pick up some Rita's and hit the open road. Whether you're headed to the park, the shore or the library (classes aren't over yet!), here is a brief list of NJ-based artists and songs who should ride passenger seat this month:
1. "ICE.MOON" - SZA
"Show me the way to your hiding place
I think I wanna go go there.."
SZA is an artist who grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey - her unique sound and incredible songwriting abilities have captured the hearts of many and have impressed artists like Rihanna and label-mate legend Kendrick Lamar. CTRL, SZA's highly anticipated new project, is set to be released soon (but not soon enough!).
2. "Colors" - Michael Blume
"All of the colors, bleeding from my head
All of the colors, paint a picture in my head
Falling apart, but it's perfectly perfect..."
Michael Blume of Montclair has amassed fans all over the world because of his soul bearing lyrics, honest commitment to self and comprehensive musicality and showmanship. His song "Manufactured Love" has over one million streams on Spotify, and "Colors", released in 2016, is another great example of his creative, passionate artistry. A great song for drives with the windows down!
3. "Tropicana" - Topaz Jones
Topaz Jones of Montclair is the son of a funk musician and developed a unique sound while studying at NYU that incorporates elements from many different styles. "Tropicana", his biggest hit to date, is a perfect example of his grandiose wordplay and clever musical choices.
