As previously mentioned, I have recently returned from a five month internship program at Walt Disney World. For the Spring 2017 semester I had the chance to work and live at the happiest place on Earth. These are five of the most important things I needed during the DCP.

1. Backpack

A backpack is essential at the DCP. Luckily I brought a backpack down with me, however, it was a Vera Bradley backpack that ultimately got dirty and destroyed. From bringing it to the parks on your day off to bringing it to work, almost all Cast Member's carried a backpack. I recommend buying a cheaper yet durable backpack because it will get a lot of use!

2. Credit card holder

Although I mostly brought a backpack to carry all my things at the parks, I wish I would've had a phone case with a built in credit card holder. It's no secret that it gets very hot in Florida and the last thing you want is to be carrying a stifling backpack. When taking a quick trip to the parks you will usually only need to bring your phone, maingate, blue ID, housing ID, and a debit card. Condensing these all into one would've made my life a lot easier on the DCP.

3. Memory foam mattress topper

While this may seem like something random, a mattress topper is absolutely essential for the beds in Disney housing. The beds are hard and uncomfortable and the last thing you want to do after a hard day at work is try to sleep on an uncomfortable bed. A mattress topper will change your sleeping habits and help you get an adequate amount of sleep.

4. Earplugs

Going along with my theme of essentials if you are staying in Disney housing, I definitely suggest buying earplugs. Earplugs are lifesavers when your roommates are hanging out when you need to wake up early and you need peace and quiet. Also, because my apartment was on the first floor there were a plethora of loud noises and people that would wake my roommates and I up in the middle of the night.

5. Magic band

When guests stay at a Walt Disney World resort they receive a free magicband with their stay. For all other guests (including Cast Members), they need to buy a magicband if they want one. Having a magicband made my life so much easier when my friends and I were taking a quick trip to the parks. Instead of having to pull out my maingate pass every time we used a FastPass or tried to enter the park, we could use our magicband after it was linked to our maingate. Buying a magicband is 100% worth the money because of how frequently you will be using it during the DCP.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
