Entitlement: The Blame Game

"You see what happens when you hand out participation trophies?"

Entitlement: The Blame Game

Millennials. The generation that seems to be getting nothing but negative backlash from the media and previous generations. You know, the generations we call Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, Uncle? The ones who love to continuously state how spoiled, entitled and selfish we all are. And how back when they were our age they would NEVER get away with the things we are doing now. The ones that pin all this blame on young adults—some of whom are barely past their teenage years. Yeah. That generation. And I'm here to say that we're completely fed up with it all.

Let's take a moment to really reflect on this blame game, shall we? Baby Boomers and Gen X, the generations that RAISED US are shaming us. Shaming us for the world we unwilling grew up in. A world THEY controlled and ruined and we are now trying to fix with what little shreds of decency that are left. We never asked for your hand outs—you gave them to us willingly. We never asked to be coddled—you never wanted us to face the reality you created for us. WE NEVER WANTED THE DAMN PARTICIPATION TROPHIES—they were just plastic paper weights we had to keep on the shelves in our rooms until we decided they were useless and finally threw them away. Did you expect us to raise ourselves? Should we have taught ourselves at the age of 8 what we were and weren't entitled to?

YOU did this, Baby Boomers and Gen X. You did it. Not us. And we are all sick of the blame game.

We were raised in a world of chaos, war and financial crisis. A world that was—and continues to be—in shambles. And as young adults we are now starting to open our eyes and see the mess you created for us. And guess what? We're trying to fix it. We have learned from your mistakes and we see the error in your ways, so we are going to fight back. We are going to question your rules and regulations. We are going to stand up for ourselves and demand change. Because the reality is that we don't want what you have to offer because we see it only brings us condemnation.

Remember that little saying that we were never allowed to forget: When you point one finger, there are three fingers pointing back to you.

So take a moment, Baby Boomers and Gen X, and really reflect on who is to blame here.

We are not the problem. But we will be the solution.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
