There's a lot of things in life that I'll probably never understand. Why I can't run away to Mykonos, math and boys are among these things. But the one thing that truly boggles my brain is why people think they're so entitled that they feel the need to be a complete asshole to strangers who are just trying to do their jobs.
Whether I'm the witness or the victim, there is no excuse for someone to be rude for no reason. I can definitely agree that there are instances where you may need to let your bitch flag fly high. However, if for some reason you believe that you are so damn special and that it gives you the right to be blatantly and unnecessarily disrespectful, please forgive me when I punch you in the face.
I'll admit, I let little things annoy me. I have a hard time letting things go, regardless of how it directly impacts my life. And nothing sets me off more than this. Maybe it's because I work in a position where I deal with this often, or maybe it's because I'm just a decent freaking human being—it's hard to tell. I see it over and over and over and I usually rant to my mom or friends because I can't get over how ridiculous it is.
This little rant has been building inside me, but one particular situation inspired me to share it on the Internet. Last week on my daily Starbucks run, the drive-thru line was slammed. I decided to go inside, which to no surprise, was crazy busy as well. I knew it was going to be a wait. "No biggie," I thought. I know what it's like to be overwhelmed. After all, it was a Saturday morning and everyone needs a caffeine fix to get through the day. When I got to the counter I slipped a five dollar bill in the tip jar and gave a smile to the woman working at the counter. Unfortunately, my act of kindness was overshadowed by a lovely woman who exhibited certain traits I mentioned above.
Long story short, this swine—excuse me, lady—was pissed because she had been waiting fifteen minutes for her mobile order. I guess fifteen minutes is a pretty long time when mobile orders are supposed to be quicker. However, rather than politely asking her for an ETA on her two drinks, she raised her voice in a rude tone, demanding she get her drink because "she has a 10-hour drive ahead of her and she has to have her venti double soy no foam latte". The barista at the counter (bless her heart) calmly apologized and even offered to make her both drinks free of charge. The lady, still fuming, said it was "the least she could do". The barista said she saw the order on the line, so she proceeded to make it until the crazy lady changed her order to more complicated, more expensive drinks (upon learning they were getting them for free). She politely obliged, still keeping her composure. This same lady then goes around to everyone at the counter, telling them how ridiculous it was that she had been waiting this long, how she couldn't believe the employees were careless enough to forget her drinks and how exhausted this whole ordeal has made her. After getting her drinks, she complained it didn't taste like what she ordered (despite it being written on the sticker) but she was going to deal with it because she already wasted enough of her precious time. The end.
Oh, how I wish I said something to that lady. I know she'll probably never see this, so instead, I'm just going to give a little piece of advice for everyone else out there. I know this may be hard for some of you to read, but I promise, you need to hear it.
JUST BE A DECENT, KIND, UNDERSTANDING HUMAN BEING. YOU ARE NO MORE IMPORTANT OR SPECIAL THAN ANYONE ELSE, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO ARE SERVICING YOU IN SOME SORT OF WAY.
That's it. I hope you all learned something. Thanks for coming and have a nice day. :)
