My nontraditional ways of making the process easier

In this transition from high school to college, I knew there were going to be a lot of new things to prepare for. This process has been both scary yet exciting, with some of it also being sad. There's a lot to do in preparing for this stage of life, so I thought I would share a few things I have been doing to make the transition smoother.

1. Patching up

In my time at high school, I have burned a lot of bridges. I said things I should have never said, people were unkind to me so I did so back, and there are people I have ignored for years. I decided to put this all behind me before I left for school. I came to the realization senior year that nobody cares anymore. There's no point in holding on to grudges that do not matter, so let them go. I have apologized and thankfully made some amends. Even if you don't do this in a transitional period, I recommend everyone tries this. It leaves you feeling much better than if you had left it alone.

2. Spending time with my parents

My parents are divorced, so I live with my dad. My dad is a very important person in my life and without him, I don't know where I would be. I have been so busy this year with everything I have done, between theater and choir and just wanting to see people before I leave. It wasn't until how sad my dad was before I left one day that I realized how much he's probably been missing me. So, before I go out at night, I make sure we do something like cook dinner together or watch a movie. I'm not ready for how much of a mess I'm going to be when I can't see him for months on end, but all I can do is enjoy the time we have now.

3. Organizing

If there is one thing I have never been good at, it's keeping myself organized. I am constantly the person asking "wait, that's today??", or "When is ___?". But I know that if I keep that up in college, I will fall so far behind it will be impossible to catch up. I have since bought a planner and constantly set reminders on my phone that tell me what I'm supposed to be doing. I want to get in to this habit before school so I can continue it when I get there.

4. Finding what I love

I am currently undecided in my major, but if you read my last post, you might have noticed I mentioned education. While my heart leans towards that field, the truth is, I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't know what I love or what I want to do forever. It's really frustrating when all you want to do is fast-forward to adulthood, but you have no idea what it'll look like. So, I have been spending time with myself trying to figure out what it is that I love.

5. Dorm shopping!

These last four were pretty sad. Let's talk about something fun: dorm shopping! I'm excited for this because I get to start completely new with my space and buy all new stuff. I've already been looking at bedding and things like that. I think I want to do something fun, like cover my room in plants. Which is fine, because dark green is one of my favorite colors ever. This is will be such a nice creative outlet for when I first move in and I'm all stressed. I also can't wait to see what my roomie decides to do with her decor! In case you were wondering, I've mostly been using Amazon and Target to decorate.

While I still have a ton to do before I leave, these are just a few things I have done to prepare. I know I have a long road ahead of me, but I know that in the end, everything will work out how it should.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
