The day after Donald Trump became president riots broke out, and minorities everywhere are in fear thanks to those Trump supporters threatening them. My Facebook feed has been full of hate from both sides and it needs to end. As Americans, we all need to come together and support each other. America is still a country of religious freedom. This freedom does not just apply to Christians, but rather Christians, Jews, Muslims, and what ever other religions are out there. Trump did win the presidency (not officially yet but it does seem that he will have it soon.) This does not mean that everyone needs to lose their minds and start riots in the streets. I understand people are upset, but there is a right a wrong way to handle it.
I understand that some people are upset that Trump is now the president-elect. I have several friends who are. But they are not rioting and destroying businesses or beating up others and calling it a "protest." You are not going to make a difference this way, in fact you are simply making yourself look worse. I understand that some of Trump's rhetoric is hurtful and seems threatening, but that is still no reason to act out this way. Be adults and be Americans.
To Trump supporters: Stop spreading hate. Where in any of his speeches did he say to threaten people? Where did he say "rip hijabs off women's heads" and "tell them hijabs are illegal"? He didn't say threaten those who aren't white Christians. He didn't say harass women. Just because he said some demeaning things towards women does not mean you get to act that way. Grow up and be Americans.
This hate is spreading to schools where small children are being threatened and that isn't right. This is a scary time, but it wouldn't be so scary if we would all come together and stop hating each other on the basis of who we voted for. This is America, and whether you think that Trump will make it great again or not, we are all Americans. Regardless of who we voted for and we need to remember that.
As Abraham Lincoln said, "A house divided itself cannot stand." This is something we all need to remember. No matter who is president we all need to come together and be a nation united or risk falling apart. We need to stand together against hate coming from both sides and support each other no matter their race or religion.
