Going to a college that is just outside the city I live in makes it great to commute.
You know why? Well, it's because I don't have to worry about housing fees, meal plan, roommates, something breaking and waiting for it to be fixed. Just really everything that comes along with living in a dorm.
I did the dorm life for a semester at The University of South Carolina, and I did NOT like it one bit. I was always sick, not to mention if one person on your floor gets sick, everyone is now sick. Even if you live 3 floors above and below. That's why I am beyond glad that I have to ability to commute to school.
Now commuting has its pros and cons, more pros than cons most definitely though. The pros are: I sleep in my own bed every night, I don't have a roommate nor share a room at home, there is always food in the house (thank you parents), home cooked meals, I can be a slob without someone helping, and so many more reasons.
Of course there are cons as well though, such as sitting in traffic (only if you have a class that starts before 10 am though), when people want to do stuff late at night and you realize you still have to drive home, or when you're the only person with a car because everyone else lives on campus.
One thing I get most often though is it'll be about 10:30/11 pm and someone will ask to hang out, bruh, no I am already in bed and not driving to downtown, that is a no go.
Since I live so close to the school technically, it doesn't take that long to get to school, maybe 25 minutes on average. Though once it starts to sprinkle or even mist, it can take up to 45 minutes since apparently in South Carolina, no one knows how to drive in the rain, which causes many accidents.
You'll see a lot of people in the left lane going maybe if you're lucky 40 on the interstate *why though it's a 60 people and you're in the fast lane*. Though it is a good distance drive (15 miles about) I have to get gas every 4-5 days, which kind of sucks but I got a new car, for this reason, to commute! Sometimes it is very nerve-racking to live off campus with how stupid drivers are, but for the most part, it is enjoyable and fun to live in your own home.
Another great thing is, I don't ever have to deal with someone else's stupidity setting off the fire alarms in the middle of the night. It is so great to be able to sleep through the night knowing my sister and parents aren't going to burn the house down. Put water in your easy mac people, it isn't that hard to remember that!
