Dear Floridians, Enjoy This Weather While You Can

As per usual, Florida is late for winter. After giving us a warm Christmas and a semi-cool New Year's Eve, it's safe to say that Floridian's are disappointed.

I've lived here pretty much my whole life and Florida's weather has never quite captured the essence of winter, which is understandable. People move down here to avoid the cold, but recently it appears that Florida is trying to win us back.

Last week and this week, the temperatures have ranged from about 48-67 degrees and I'd like to say that "this is what we've been waiting for!" Florida is participating in a cold-front that we all know won't last very long, so it's our chance to really enjoy it. Don't waste these moments of cool air inside with your AC pumping in the 75-degree air.

Take advantage of the cold. Wear leggings, wear comfy sweaters, and (even though I don't like them) why not wear some Ugg-type boots. Let your freak flag fly.

As Floridians know, we usually get made fun of for "overreacting" to the cold. But NEWS FLASH, we don't get to enjoy any cool weather ever. So we're sorry for steering into the skid as hard as possible when there's a small hint of cool air in the forecast.

I'm almost entirely sure that Snow Birds will agree that this is some of their favorite weather too because they never stay long enough to endure the scorching heat that all but melts our bodies into puddles of sweat. If I ever see a Snow Bird here year-round I'll be impressed.

So basically what I'm saying is, for however much longer this insanely great weather is going to last, let us Floridians enjoy it in our own way. K, thanks.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
