Enjoy The Benefits Of Keeping Plants In Your Home

I’ve learned recently that homes need more than just furniture to feel like a home. Adding pieces of art, throw pillows, books, your own personal touches are very important, without them you begin wandering around a place that just doesn’t feel like yours. While I have added all of those items and more to my new home I slowly realized that it still needed more. My home needed life; it needed plants. My last apartment had a balcony and it was wonderful being able to bring the smells and feelings of the changing seasons and the outdoors into it, so I decided that those feelings could be replicated if I were to bring plants into my new apartment. It has worked brilliantly! Therefore, I have comprised a list of the benefits that plants bring to your home.

Plants brighten up a room.

The colors of plants alone make a room feel sunnier. There are so many striking vibrant varieties. Each plant will offer a notion of the outdoors. You’ll even notice that some plants will reach for the sun so regardless of how dark or trapped you may feel just open those blinds and allow the plants to find the sun and you will too. No matter which type of plant you like it will still bring light into your home.

Plants produce an enchanting aroma

While not all plants smell or even fashion a pleasant smell, you can find plants that do. Walking into a room with a plant’s perfume unfolding automatically changes the ambiance. There is nothing like breathing in that fresh scent. And the freshness in the room is not only a feeling, but also real. Plants give off a clean air that will emanate throughout an apartment. Plants are lovely.

Physically, plants are absurd, astonishing, and extraordinary, all species, which makes them beautiful. We enjoy going to gardens and walking around to observe the bewildering amount of pants our world offers, we like having flowers at parties, and giving flowers/plants as presents or using them to express love and affection. We do all of this because each plant is unique and gorgeous, sometimes whimsical, but they produce the same reaction when they are received: happiness. We feel happy when we are in a room with plants. The colors, the smells, their beauty, they bring so many emotions.

Plants are delicate.

Plants need care and nourishment. Like people they grow and establish themselves, they lay down different roots, and they can travel and adapt (sometimes). They demand attention. If not given the proper care they wither away, they vanish. But although they are gentle, they are also strong and can endure weathering. Having to care for an organism so delicate brings peace to a home because when you care for the plant anger and stress subside as you watch this miraculous existence grow.

Plants make you smarter.

Researchers have been busy conducting studies that seem to prove that the presence of plants in your workspace improves your attention. We spend so much time around technology and in front of a screen that simply changing the way you decorate seems to have an affect on your mind. Being able to enjoy plants doesn’t take as much out of us mentally. It’s nice and calming after being in an office all day to walk outside or come home to plants. If you work at home taking time to appreciate the plants around you could make the environment that much more tolerable. Of course, researchers are still working to clean up some of their questions, but the idea that plants could have a cognitive benefit is pretty cool, right?

Plants possess health benefits.

Studies show that having plants in your home can help with your breathing and prevent illness. Plants release oxygen, which in turn gives our body more oxygen, and we need all the oxygen we can get! Plants can also increase humidity, which is great in the dryer months when it can be harder to breathe. Along with helping with the physical plants can also help with our mental health. (Check out this article for some more benefits and also citations.)

So, even if you don't have a green thumb keeping plants in your home can have an impact on how you live your daily life!

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
