The English major: the thing everyone says is a bad idea, but you're doing it anyway. It may not be the most direct route in life, but at least it's one you enjoy.

1. You asked yourself if this was a good idea

Because when everyone tells you something is a bad idea, you can't help but question it yourself sometimes. So yes, you do wonder if this is really what you want to do. Maybe if you just majored in something simple, life would be easier.

2. Then deciding it was what you wanted

Because this IS what you want to do, regardless of what other people might say or think.

3. Though you're still not sure sometimes

Though the fact is it's hard to ignore the negativity completely. So even when your 99.9% sure this is your path in life, there will always be some doubts.

4. Wondering if it's bad to hate the classic

Yes, "Frankenstine" and "Wuthering Heights" may be the pinochle of classic literature, but it doesn't change the fact they're agonizing to read. Not that these authors aren't great, but it's just hard to appreciate such wordy and winding stories in 2018. Especially when you have to write a paper about them.

5. Trying to explain that you don't want to be a teacher

Because children are not your forte. Or, if you're like me, and your idea of hell is an elementary school classroom.

6. And getting used to the "look" that comes when you do

We all know it, that "you're making a terrible decision" look that flashes across peoples face the moment you say it's not a teaching degree. It would almost be better if they just told you what they were thinking, instead of just staring and nodding with eyes full of pity.

7. Procrastinating on one book with a different book

Because the book you want to be reading is so much better than the one your teacher assigned.

8. Spending way too long in the library

With so many options it's impossible not to. Plus it's another way to procrastinate whatever you should be doing.

9. Taking solace in the fact that at least your good at writing papers

It's the only thing you won't have to worry about in college. Trying to find time to write three at the same time is a different matter, however.

10. Thinking about the job market more than most people

Because you have too. The industry is a hard one to break into, and in a world where no industry is easy, it can be a scary thought.

11. Loving what you do, despite any difficulties

Because the fact is you choose this, and you choose it for a reason. It may not be the easiest path, but it's yours, and it's the one you'll gladly take. Your an English major, and even if no one else is happy about that fact, you are

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
