I recently took the Myer Briggs personality test again. My Freshman year of college was the first time I ever took this test and I learned about it in my sociology and psychology classes. I was just curious to see if my personality changed in a semester, and it did. I was an INFP and now I am now an ENFJ! Let me explain what the letters mean and how the test works. There are 16 different types of personality types and there’s a quiz to find out which personality you are.
Here’s what the letters stand for and mean:
Introverted/ Extroverted
Sensing/ INtuition
Thinking/ Feeling
Judging/ Perceiving
Let me break it down for you, extroverted people usually feel recharged by being social. They tend to speak more, can easily accept change, get distracted easily, make decisions quickly, prefer to work in open spaces and like to speak up. Introverts feel recharged by spending time alone, enjoy one-on-one conversations more, have a closer relationship with a few friends instead of many, listening more, talking less, struggles with change, can keep a deep focus for a long time, are more reserved, opens to only a select few people, reflects before making any decision big or small, don’t like being in the spotlight or the center of attention, prefers to work in quiet spaces and shares ideas only when they choose to.
Then there are people who can sense something or the people who have the gift of intuition. Sensing refers to how people process data; people who are factual and process information through the five senses. Someone who is realistic, lives in the present, aware of surroundings, notices every detail, practical, goes by senses and is factual. Intuition people focus on the future and the possibilities. They process information through patterns and impressions. They are future focused, inventive, imaginative, deep, abstract, idealistic and complicated.
Next, there are thinkers and feelers. Thinkers also look at logic and facts and they tend to see the world in black and white, they are list makers and usually always follow the rules. Thinkers are brief, straight to the point, calm and reasonable. Feelers listen to their heart and consider the feelings of those around them. They view life as harmony and are highly goal oriented. They make decisions based on values (or on what they value and believe in). Feelers are really friendly, shows empathy, is aware of other people’s opinions and reactions to events and lets someone else voice their own opinion before they voice their own.
Finally, there are the judgers and the perceivers. Judgers, in this case, is a good thing. It means that someone views life in a structured way, creates plans and organizes their life. They like having a sense of control by making their own decisions very clearly. They create plans, organizes their life, finds solutions quickly to get the job done and shows the achievements and results. The perceivers find the structure that the judgers love to be more confining and limiting. They prefer to keep their options open and to only make choices when completely necessary. Perceivers bring in new ideas and possibilities, encourages personal growth and freedom, and are extremely creative.
