Winter break is awesome; you get to spend time away from college and relax. Unfortunately, college kids start missing the home away from their actual homes and start begging to go back to school. My winter break is a month and a half long, and I am already starting to feel bored. Here are some things that have been helping me through this boring month and a half.

Catch up on your favorite show

Breaks away from the busy college life mean that you can binge as much as you want. For example, I have been watching an insane amount of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" since coming home.

Get back into shape

Since the beginning of the semester, the amount of exercise in my life has been lacking. Break is the perfect time to unroll that yoga mat and get back into shape.

Meet up with your hometown friends

Winter break is the perfect time to meet up with your friends that you don't see when you are at college. It's even a good time to just get a cup of coffee and chat with those you aren't really close friends with.

Spend time with your family

Spend as much time with your family as you can before you leave for college again!

Self-care

My winter break has already consisted of face masks and hair dye sessions. Try to take some time during break to relax and treat yourself after a stressful semester.

Get a new hobby

Learning new hobbies is always a good way to pass the time while you are home. Whether it's knitting, painting, or baking, it's always fun to try out some skills that you might not use at college.

Scroll through TikTok

TikTok has always been my go-to app when I'm bored and I just need to mindlessly scroll. It is honestly kind of relaxing, and I love it.

It's nice to spend time at home, but it eventually starts to become boring. While your break might begin to feel like it's going by slowly, you'll be back at college in no time!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
