Ending The Chapter
The Running Commentary

Before I begin this piece I would like to say it has been a pleasure to meet and work with my fellow creators and that it has been an opportunity I do not regret. I have been with the University at Albany team for about a year now and now that it is time to graduate I have decided it is time to close this chapter of my life and begin the next. So thank you to everyone who has read my articles for the past year.

My time at the University has been amazing but it could not have happened without many things happening. From sleepless nights from studying and cramming for finals to nights filled with memories and crazy stories that will be told forever. I believe this is my chance to thank everyone properly before it is time to leave graduate. The words may be there but not everything has been said. I can not thank anyone who has been with me enough for my experiences during college this is but the tip of the iceberg.

To my Odyssey team.

It was hard to come to the decision to end writing with you all but as I said it is time for me to end this chapter. Thank you for the endless and sometimes random conversations, the ideas that were bounced around and created, and everything else that has not been mentioned.

To my housemates.

Thank you for everything. The sleepless nights, the endless laughs, memories, and stories. We've helped each other when in tough spots, needing to know what to wear when going out, or just what to order out for dinner. We always have encouraged each other to do everything and cheered each other on. I know that our time living together is coming to a close but our friendships will never go away.

To my teammates past and present.

Somehow anyone that has been on this team has impacted my life somehow. I've gone through three batches of new faces during my time on this team and somehow I've stayed in contact with just about everyone I've met. Thank you for accepting me and letting me join a sport that I've come to love. Without this team, I wouldn't have found where I belong or found my family away from home. The bonds I've made with this team are irreplaceable and I have memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. It hurts to know that I will be miles away from a place I've spent so much time but I know I will always be welcomed back.

To my parents

I know I say it all the time but thank you for everything. From the first day of college to now graduating, you have done more for me than I can ever repay. I can not even begin to write a thank you because there wouldn't be enough room or time to do it. So all I can say to sum it up would be thank you for believing in me and knowing that I would be able to succeed in anything I put my mind into. Unfortunately I do not have a recent photo of the three of us so this one from my first time on the campus four years ago will have to do.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
