Some people deserve a small shoutout.

An End of Year Thank You Note

This academic year is drawing to an end, and there have been some good times. But more importantly, there have been good people who have influenced the last nine months of our lives. Everyone’s experience is different, but many circumstances that I was in are probably similar to what you were in. So I think we should all acknowledge the people who helped us out this year.

Thank you to my first friends. The ones I made the first couple weeks of the year that I did things with because I knew no one else. You reached out to me when no one else did and made me feel like I wasn't a loser.

Thank you to the professors I had who were kind, but also taught me a lot. I appreciate the work you put in to make me a better student, and for showing me what I was capable of.

But, thank you also to the professors who weren't kind. The ones who made me stronger. They made me work harder to prove myself, and now I know that I can face any challenge.

Thank you to those three random guys, who sat with me at the diner one day, and we just talked about everything. Maybe it was because we didn’t know each other, but that was one of the best conversations I had this year.

Thank you to that random girl in Math who turned to me one day, and became my study partner. I did better in that class because I had you.

Thank you to my teammates for taking me in and making me feel like a part of something. Thank you for giving me a safe space, and a place to let all my stress out. You became my family, and you still bully me like the younger sister.

Thank you to all the students who created those Google docs with all the answers to the study guide for the midterm or final or any goddamn test we had to take this year. God Bless You.

Thank you to my family for supporting me even though you weren’t here. The care packages and phone calls made it all surprisingly easier.

Thank you to those random girls on my floor who have become some of my best friends. Thank you for introducing me to your friends, and taking me in. You showed me what it is like to have true friendship, and you always were there when I needed someone.

And finally, thank you to everyone who doubted me. Thank you for telling me I couldn't do it, so I did to prove you wrong. Thank you for making me feel dumb, so when I succeeded I felt twice as smart. Thank you for motivating me each and every day to be better, even though that wasn't your intention. I owe you one.

This year was full of obstacles, good (and some not so good) grades, going out with friends, and pretending you weren't failing half your classes during Finals Week. Everyone made some memories that they won't forget, and that's what will stay with you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
