End of Summer Daze

Make the most of the end of the summer!

End of Summer Daze

It's August, so you know what that means! We are now at the end of our summer break. It is time to get done all the things you want to get done before the end of our break! I once read somewhere that August is like the Sunday of summer and in many ways it is. You may find yourself trying to sneak in some last minute vacations, reunions with friends, or even completing some last minute summer assignments. You ask yourself where did the summer go and find yourself in a summer daze. However, it's not too late to make the most out of the end of your summer! Here are 8 ways to make the most out of the end of summer days.

1. Plan a mini getaway with your friends or significant other.

It's never to late to get away! Be sure to take time to rest and make the most of your vacation.

2. Agree to do something you have never done before.

What better way to end the summer than by adding a little bit of recklessness to it! BE spontaneous and try something new, from trying something new to eat or doing something you never thought of doing (like skydiving perhaps?)

3. Make time to hangout with friends and family who you won't be able to see throughout the school year.

We all know that we say we will try to keep in touch while school is in session, but once the semester starts, it is nearly an impossible task. So take advantage of the time you have with your friends who are here for the summer and the family you rarely see.

4. Read a new book!

Nothing is better than being able to read a book you are not assigned to read. Can't go away on vacation this summer? Read a book! It can take you to far away places and change your perspective.

5. Have a spontaneous beach day!

If there is one thing that defines summer, it is going to the beach! The sun in your hair and the sand between your toes is an easy way to relax before the impending stress of the fall semester.

6. Slowly work on the mountain of work you have to get through.

It makes no sense to do all your work last might, that is what the end of the semester is for.

7. Feel free to sleep in!

It is always nice to catch up on some zzz's. Make sure you are well rested and ready to tackle what the world has to offer!

8. But...don't waste the end of the summer by sleeping until 4 everyday.

We only have a limited time to bask in the sun. Take advantage of it before it starts to look like it is 8:00 PM when it's only 5:00 PM.

Summer seems to be a magical time for most people. It is a stress-free, warm time to reunite with old friends and do the things that you wouldn't normally be able to do. So August may be the Sunday of summer, but make sure you make the most out of your end of summer days!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
