10 Tips And Tricks To Get Out Of The Dreaded End-Of-Semester Funk

Every student has had their fair share of bad days. Sometimes when those days happen it seems hard to get out of the funk you've fallen into. As finals are quickly approaching and it's getting to be grind time a lot of students are finding themselves in panic-mode. I am currently one of those students. The last of assignment due dates are approaching and the fear of seeing your GPA at the end of the semester are creeping up. Being in a funk is totally okay, at least for awhile. The key is to know how to get yourself out of the funk. As I have found myself in this situation lately, I decided to put in a few tips and tricks of how to get yourself back on track in just one extremely productive and feel good day to help you finish these last few weeks strong.

1. Do some spring cleaning.

There is no coincidence that spring cleaning is named spring cleaning. At this point in the year it's usually peoples time to get back on track and spring cleaning is surprisingly effective. A clean room eliminates that feeling of being held back from doing more important things like maybe your final five-page writing paper...

2. Take a long, long shower.

This is a great way to reset your energy and mindset. Taking as long as you want and getting all clean is like washing all the bad energy off your body. Evil spirits, BE GONE!

3. Do a long, long after shower routine.

Treat yourself to a hair mask, a face mask, pluck your eyebrow, whiten your teeth, exfoliate, use your very best lotion and hair product, just whatever you need to do to feel at the top of your game.

4. Get that much-needed haircut.

I think almost anyone in college has pushed off a haircut for way to long before. Not to mention the fact that getting your hair done and walking out of the salon with a fresh blow out leaves you feeling like a total boss! You can do anything with good hair TBH.

5. Go buy a candle and let that bi*** burn.

Fill your room with your favorite scent and be happy as hell about it. Target has amazing and surprisingly long-lasting candles for pretty cheap. It'll be worth every penny when you're relaxing after a long lib sesh (soon to be mentioned).

6. Put on your favorite (yet still comfy) outfit.

Some part of being productive can be getting out of those same sweats you've been wearing for three days. It'll help you feel less lazy and create a new mind set for some work to be done.

7. Make a to-do list for the week.

If you're behind on work it can be extremely overwhelming to think about everything all at once. Look at your schedule and due dates and plan day by day the work you need to get done. By chunking it off into smaller pieces it'll be easier to accomplish and WAY easier to stick to the plan. Between studying for finals and finishing up the last assignments of the semester there is a lot to do and staying on top of things is key to not stressing out and/or falling back into the ever-dreaded funk.

8. Set aside some time for the library.

Invite one of your most productive friends, or hey, maybe a friend to go through this check list with. Treat yourself to your favorite Starbucks drink and start on your to-do list. Just one step in the right direction after being in a funk can be a huge leap to being successful.

9. Wake up early (just once).

If you aren't naturally a morning person this might seem like the worst advice ever, but trust me! This is the most important tip that I swear by, and if you don't listen to anything else I've ranted on about just try this. I have the most difficulty waking up in the mornings but I can also say that treating yourself to that extra 15 minutes of sleep is not worth the horrible rush to be on time to class. You end up going to class flustered and still in your morning grumpy mood. When you know you need to be productive one day, just wake up an hour and a half earlier for your class and go get breakfast and review what you need to do for the day. Chance are you'll find something small you can knock out of the way earlier and it will set the tone for the rest of the day!

10. Treat yo'self!!!

When all is said and done your mental state is the most important thing to get you through all the piles of school work. When you're done just one days worth of work, don't forget to treat yourself! This could be pigging out at chic-fil-a, watching a couple hours of Netflix before bed, reading a good book, or virtually ANYTHING that you enjoy.

This list isn't just random mumbo-jumbo that I decided to write down for an article, it's what I live by. As I was writing this I was sitting in my favorite outfit after a long shower routine and with my favorite candle burning and it's the first time I've been able to successfully write in weeks. Being in a funk is no joke, and getting out of it isn't either.

I hope anyone that reads this has taken some inspiration from my tips and maybe even have come up with their own fail-safe way to get out of the funk. Turn you bad funk mood into a happy funky one and save yourself from the stress of spring semester.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
