The End Is Near

The end of summer 2016, that is.

The End Is Near
He's On Wheels

Oh, summer, you were 14 weeks of fun in the sun and late nights by the fire pit. Other than working and taking summer classes, my summer has been pretty relaxing and refreshing. My days off have been spent relaxing with my family and laying out as much as I can. When we first got out of school, I thought that 14 weeks sounded like practically a lifetime.Who knew that 14 weeks could go by so quickly. As much as I want to just close my eyes and pretend that summer will last a lifetime, unfortunately, I can't do that. I have to face the ugly reality. School starts in less than two weeks.

In college campuses across the nation, students and faculty are gearing up for a brand new year. I have gotten several emails within the last week regarding move-in day, tuition payment deadlines, and Welcome Week announcements. This has forced reality to set in for me. My days by the pool are quickly coming to an end. Although I would rather spend my days by the pool, I can't help but be really excited for a fresh start. I am so excited to be back on campus. The atmosphere of campus in August is unlike any other time of the school year. Everyone is still refreshed from summer break, and we have not gotten stressed out from classes yet. Nobody has an excuse to be bored during the first few weeks of classes. There is always something to do on campus during August. There are tons of fun events, activities, and free food all over campus. If there is anything I have learned from being in college, it is necessary to take advantage of any opportunity of free food.

I am having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I am about to embark on my junior year of college. It seems like that it was just yesterday that I was anxiously awaiting my first day of college. I had no idea what to expect, and I was terrified. Two years later, I like to think that I am prepared and I know what I am doing. I have two years under my belt, and I am not really nervous for this year. I am definitely more excited. I am also sad in some ways, as well. The last two years have flown by. I guess the old saying "time flies when you're having fun" is true. The last two years have been two of the best years of my life. During my time in college so far, I feel like I have discovered who I am and who I want to be. I have also found a group of wonderful and genuine people to surround myself with and call my friends. I know that I only have two years left. I don't want college to end just yet. For this reason, I am going to make the most out of the next two years and bask in the glory of college life while I still can. Here's to a fresh start.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
