Let's Stop Immigration Raids

In the last two weeks, we've heard the horrific stories circling this country regarding deportation. Mothers, sons, daughters, fathers, people who aren't causing any damage to society are being rounded up by ICE and being deported.

Under Trump's administration, the number has skyrocketed. Right now more than 700 people have been detained. What is happening to this country? Why are people so cruel? The U.S. uses the excuse of that they are only going to be deporting people who have some sort of criminal record, but that is complete bullshit. ICE is arresting and deporting people who have been in this country for years, people who have families, and whom have never committed a crime.

Is this country truly happy separating families, taking mothers away from their children? I just can't seem to wrap my head around why people would think this is okay. It just doesn't make any sense to me. But yet these immigration raids keep occurring. They are purposefully attacking the Latino community and are arresting people for no reason. Some of these people include people who are under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Students who came to this country when they were very young, and are legally allowed to be in this country. These students are here to go to school and to work, yet this country still see's them as some kind of a threat.

Immigration raids are terrible and they are scaring people . People are fearing for their lives, fearing for their children's lives, fearing for their future. Immigrants don't come to this country to mess it up, they come here to make it better. Because let's remember without immigrants, this country would not exist. We also need to ask ourselves, what is going on in their countries of origin that make them want to leave and come to the U.S.? Instead of forcing these people to leave, this country should be thankful for the fact that because of them, our country is still standing. Because immigrants do the work that others refuse to do.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
