Bible Verses for the Struggling College Student

College can be very trying at times. We all struggle to juggle school work, jobs, social lives, extracurricular activities and more. Through these challenging times, it is sometimes hard to remember why we're doing what we're doing and why we put ourselves through all the stress that college entails. We're here because God wants us to be here and all of these struggles and hardships are a part of a grander plan. Sometimes we may feel alone but God has left reminders throughout the Bible that he cares for and loves us and only wants what is best for us. So, for those who are feeling stressed, anxious, discouraged or overwhelmed, you are not alone and these Bible verses are here to offer you encouragement and support.

When You Feel Anxious

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:27

When You Feel Tired

"Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." Isaiah 40:29

When You Feel Confused

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

When You Feel Lost

"I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken." Psalm 16:8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-7

When You Feel Overwhelmed

"When spirits grow faint within me, it is you who knows my way." Psalm 142:3

When You Feel Stressed

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me." John 14:1

"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." Matthew 6:33-34

When you're feeling anxious, lost, confused or stressed, cast your worries on Him and reflect on God's Word. No matter where life takes you, trust in Lord and believe that everything that happens is all part of His bigger plan.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
