The time is coming again where many schools are getting ready for sorority recruitment. And I know plenty of girls are struggling to decide if Greek life is for them and whether to rush or not. But even if you decide that a sorority isn't for you, going through recruitment anyway is a great experience. Rushing with an open mind and positive attitude is the key to having an amazing rush week.
I know the feeling of being hesitant to rush. This past year, as my school's recruitment period was approaching I began to think, "Why not?" All of my friends were rushing, and everywhere I looked people were asking me if I had signed up. Coming into college, I had no intention of ever joining a sorority, so going through recruitment seemed like something I would obviously turn down. But the more I heard, many people were rushing to see what it was like and to get out of their comfort zone. The one thing you hear time and time again as a freshman is "Get involved -- get out there!", and as sick as you'll get of hearing that, it's beyond true. But some of my favorite memories from freshman year are from rush week. I'll always remember laughing with friends because we trekked across campus in a foot of snow and ice with heels and dresses on (our recruitment is during second semester). And one of my favorite memories is staying up late making our outfits for Chapel Day. It's memories like these that make recruitment amazing. No matter the outcome, I would encourage everyone to rush for the memories and the overall experience.
Recruitment forces you to get out of your comfort zone and to "get out there." You spend time with a small group of girls, and get to talk to members of various sororities each night. Whether you pledge a sorority or not, it's honestly a great way to meet new people in college. And in some amazing situations, those friends you have and meet become your sisters. Sometimes, having that "Why not?" attitude is the key to having a great time and making new friends and memories. Don't take the decision to pledge a sorority lightly, but take a risk and go through recruitment. If you've already decided to rush, then go with an open mind and positive outlook! But if you're on the fence about wanting to go through the process, I would encourage everyone to rush.
So say, "Why not?"
