As a young woman, it has become apparent to me that it can be a challenge to find people who want to build others up, not tear them down. In 19 years, I have had my share of dealing with people who would much rather hurt those around them to get where they want to go, then bring those people with them, as a way to put it. They would rather be the only one rising than have others rise with them. As a young woman, it has also become apparent to me that there are people out there who believe that encouragement is the key to unlocking things in people they did not even know they possessed, thus choosing to help those people rise to reach their own individual goals along side them. I know that I am one of those people. I would much rather empower someone and watch them succeed along side me, then put some down and block them from flourishing. Someone else’s success is notyour own personal failure.
Empowered people empower others.
When you empower someone, it is like you give them wings. You help them gain confidence that they have talents and abilities that make them unique to this world, and that their abilities are useful and vital to the lives of those around them. Role models in our lives, the people we look up to, are the ones that first show this to us. They are the ones that empower us and cause us to develop the feeling of being empowered. By being an empowered person, or someone who sees the benefits in uplifting others, one is able to see the world differently, I believe. As a result of this, one is able to see how beneficial it is to build someone up, to magnify their strengths and help them deal with their weaknesses, and maybe even improve them.
It is simple; people want others to accept them for the way they are, the way they think and the way they interpret the world.
Of course, it is impossible to make each person we meet see that we see this in them, because some people we do not not connect with as well. However, there are those people with whom we do connect with easily and as a result, begin to see the wheels turn for them as they grow right before our eyes. It is truly one of the things that makes life worthwhile, to see someone “come to life” right in front of us. It is electrifying. The same can be said for seeing the way that their being is able to impact us and our perspectives. Impacting the life of someone else is special, end of story, no matter how it happens. For me, when I see this happen in the lives of my friends because of the people they surround themselves with, it makes me thankful for my role models, and for the other wonderful people in my life, who opened my eyes to the fact that I have abilities and talents unique to me that can help others see their own. They have helped me realize that it is a chain reaction. People realize their own potential, and then awaken that in others. It truly is a gift that keeps on giving. As a concept and a truth, this is something our world needs to understand, because hate cannot stop hate, and maybe love cannot either. But a good mixture of the qualities that make up what love is, like compassion, patience and understanding, can and will solve problems if our perspective on how we treat others changes.
Empowered people empower others and alter the world one life at a time.
